Leather, old books, dirt and some spices. I absolutely love this snuff. I miss it when I don't have it around, and it's currently my all-day snuff. A real old-time smell, and it gets better day by day. A must have for me.

Pleasant earthy smelling snuff, easy to take. Reminds me of a very mild smell of muck spreading-which to a country boy like me-is a good thing.

This is a snuff that takes a little bit of practice to acquire the taste. This was rather boring to me at first, but after my nose became more seasoned and after I had spent some time with Old Paris, it began to reveal itself to me.
It has the same base as my beloved Morlaix, but the scenting is listed as being "Arrack Flavor (Fermented and Distilled Dates)". Now I've long enjoyed dates, but I have never had, nor even heard of, Arrack. The flavor is subtle. It is earthy and rich, but at times it reminds you that this came from a sweet fruit. The thngs I am most reminded of are old leather and red wine. On the whole, the flavor tends only to be an enhancement as the rich tobacco scent is the driving force. Its one of the few F&Ts that is not highly floral, so will make a good all day snuff for some.

A fine taste of sandalwood and arrak, but it doesn't last long. Not a bad choice but I prefer Princes special myself, old paris are not as complexed. I heard they used Cuban tobacco for this one in the old days (like they still are suppose to do with Princes special), I would have loved to tried that out.

A dark scent of thick, well worn leather, dark dried fruit, musty old wood and paper with a touch of smokiness and old rubber. Fairly dark but not as moist as you would think upon smelling it out of the tin. A nice but short lived burn, but very subtle and not as long lived as some other F&T scents, which seem to go on forever. I love the "earthy" F&T's, this one included, which has a more "indoors" character than my other favorites in that group; there is something ancient and comforting about Old Paris (even if it's a modern version of an older recipe), like a favorite room in a very old house. A classic.

Old Paris is (with Princes) the oldest snuff name in the current Fribourg & Treyer range. As with all the other snuffs now made by Wilson’s it differs considerably with the original range. The distinct arrack of dates is much in evidence. The snuff is medium in grind and has a pleasant rich brown in colour. It used to be as coarse as the rappees and dark brown - almost black - in colour. The rich, heavy (and heady!) tobacco in the original came from Cuba (not Zimbabwe) and was milled to specification at the now defunct Westbrook Mill in Sheffield. Although pleasant and easy to take this is altogether a more lightweight affair.

Took me some weeks to finally get the qualities of this little gem in all its splendor. Somehow it didn´t reveal itself to me too soon. There is a short burn upon sniffing, which is, as it´s very short, not too bad. It´s a dark flavour, with a lingering VERY subtle sweetness in the background. Cigar like tobacco flavour, the dates add tremendously well with their dark fruity character. It´s a "heavy", deep flavour, for sure not something for in between, but for the later hours, when you lean back to enjoy it and relax. Could be a bit longer lasting, but that´s just the best of excuses for another pinch!

Smells like cat pee in the tin, so I hesitated to buy it. Then I changed my mind. Phew, it stings (nicely) and yes, it's good. Almost a schmalzler - but not quite as sweet or moist (both of these near misses are good things, I'd say). The excellence of a mixture with HDT is hereby seconded.

So far not one of my favorites. The batch I received this morning was not what I had expected by any means, and I had read so many glowing reviews that I have to say that I was highly disappointed. I will give it another chance though. Perhaps some flavor will develop now that the tin has been opened.

This one reminds me of a good Havana Cigar.
Rich, slightly smokey and intensely rewarding.

I love it......I love it......I love it.......The tin scent is "sweet dirt" It's the dates for sure........easy to take and a great burn that is not to much....the scent is a mastercraft of tobacco and aroma that marry perfectly.....my hat off to whomever thunked this one up..........the moisture content is medium to moist.....once in the nose, it's all leather, old books/rooms.....A backpack you took out of storage......something your grandpa gave you one afternoon from his secret drawer........an 57' thunderbird with leather interior (pop had one, and I swear to god this smell just like it)........get the picture?.......the aroma is "just sweet".....not "sweet"..but almost there.....this is an all day snuff for me, something I never tire of...each and every sniff is as wonderful and (may I say mystical) as the first....it is distinguished, brilliantly crafted and will be around forever I'm sure....the tobacco flavors come through in perfect unison with the date liquor and it's all heaven......after the initial aroma fades they sorta hide behind the tobacco flavors and you have to stalk them a little with frequent sniffs and cunning wiffs.....but you find it every time....kinda like a young lover who wants to be found....it's quite an interactive snuff for myself....I will always have this one of hand.....in short......it's my new thing........

There is something very satisfying about this dark brown, coarse quite moist snuff. Upon opening the tin you are greeted with alcohol, dark fruits (figs, prunes and dates), dark tobacco, old wood and leather and unidentifiable perfume. Really intoxicating! The scent doesn't last very long, but the nicotine soon kicks in, leaving calmness and mellow tobacco after the initial drama. Very easy to take. Another quality snuff from F&T.

In all honesty I have absolutely no idea what this stuff tastes like. The moisture content is a bit much for my liking, and the flavor disappears almost immediately. It is not one of my favorite F&T snuffs, but it is good on occasion. If the flavor would linger a bit longer, and if it were a bit dryer I would probably like it more. The 1oz I've got will probably last me quite some time, even if I used it exclusively.

When I ordered this snuff I frankly could not remember it. It had been years, but I was interested by the arak flavoring. When it got here I tried it, and it pretty much tasted like tobacco, with a trace of something else. But there was a mystery to it, a quality that reminded me of old bookstores and other times. I found myself enjoying it more and more, taking it morning in preference to the more highly perfumed varieties. My selection, at the moment, is Old Paris, Santo Domingo (spelled the old way on the can), Macouba, and Dr. James Robertson Justice. Of these, I find that Old Paris is disappearing at a rate I had not expected. I have the Santo Domingo in my box that goes with me, and Macouba in the box on the shelf. Old Paris is now for mornings, and Macouba in becoming a more constant friend. Perhaps it is the subtlety of Old Paris that is charming me in my old age. Or maybe it is the fact that it does not overpower morning coffee. Whatever, I am really surprised at how much I like this snuff that did not impress me at all those many years ago.

I've yet to be disappointed by F&T. OK I've only tried three, but I've some more on order and I'm sure I'll enjoy them just as much.
This one is flavoured with arrack, or dates, and I get that but the finish actually reminds me more of dirt and shoe leather. Yeah, doesn't sound appealing but it is!! Very pungent, definitely a love or hate snuff. I love it.

This snuff tastes of a fine Cuban cigar mixed with the aroma that 2 French whores from the early 1800's might have after a long fistfight over a "client". You may think this would not be pleasing to anyone but for some reason, it works!

I love this stuff. Deep date scent that is not too strong and not perfumy like many F&Ts.

This snuff is a bit of an enigma to me, at first I did not care for it at all. I looked for ways to use it by mixing it with other snuffs. I found that mixing it with equal parts of High Dry Toast is outstanding by the way. After several smash boxes of that mixture I decided to try the Old Paris on it's own again. This time I decided that I liked it quite a bit. I guess it just took my nose some time to adjust to the date scent as I have never been a fan of dates as a food. While this will never be an all-day snuff for me, I go through spells where I will use it fairly often. I am on my second tin of this stuff so there is definitely something there I like, I just cannot figure out what it is! If nothing else it is definitely worth having on hand to mix with HDT.

Nice tin aroma, easy to snuff large pinches,The tobacco's base flavor is rich and dark, reminiscent of Samuel Gawiths black coffee, this is the only snuff that gives a nice burn to my nose, something I miss.

Described as having 'the strange wine-like quality of maturing in storage', I really enjoy this snuff, which, to me is like a good red wine, slightly heavy and heady. Enjoy during the day, when I cannot always be taking as many pinches as I would like, while at work, as the scent from the same lingers in a most pleasing fashion in the nostrils. Also descibed as being good for the 'moderate user', I would agree, as I find it a bit too much for using too often.

Fine and tasty! The flavouring is arrack - made from dates. It gives a very pleasant warming sensation with a delightful lingering after taste. The grind is medium to fine but due to the moistness of the snuff this is an easy one to take. In colour Old Paris is quite a dark brown, darker than most other F&T snuffs anyway. As always with F&T snuffs, the tin it comes in really adds to the experience with its old style design and the good seal on the lid. In such containers F&T snuffs keep very well for long periods of time.

Date liqueur, Cuban style tobacco with a medium grind. This stuff is world class. A little rough on the nose and very subtle in flavor make it a challenging snuff in that you will tend to snuff it till it hurts. A highly recommended experience of subliminal addiction.
