Black, moist, coarse and earthy, F&T's Princes is rougher, less complex and less refined than the Princes Special. At first I preferred the somewhat more floral character of the Princes Special, but now after spending more time with each, I think I slightly prefer the more straightforward tobacco quality of the Princes, although I would not want to be without either. Not that this is a plain, nondescript snuff, it just seems simpler, earthier and more rustic than the Special. It's still very heady stuff, and I find it more luxurious-seeming than many of F&T's perfumed varieties in a darkly opulent way. The F&T is more expensive than other Princes varieties and harder to take (although I find it has an incredible head clearing affect), but since a snuff like this is not a snuff I would choose for all day use, I find its very high quality worth the extra expense for those times when only a dark, heavy, moist snuff will do.

Sheffield Exchange lists the flavorings in this as Tonquin Essence, Musk and Geranium Bourbon. I can't detect any Tonquin, its overpowerd if its there. The musk is most pronounced and the geranium is clearly there and most pleasant. This is the same basic snuff as the Princes Special, but significantly less floral. Its dark, black really, moist and course. Tradition states that the snuff was designed to not show on black clothing if spilled for the Prince Regent (later George IV). I find a spoon works best to take this snuff as pinching tends to make it clump too much. It also saves you from decanting it from the tube into your snuffbox. The same rule applies to the Princes Special. Moister snuffs tend to make my nose run the most both up and down. The throat drip is not too bad, but the forward drip means keep your handkerchief handy.
I was spoiled by trying the Princes Special first, and that one is still a 5 star to me, so 4 stars for this meaning excellent but not spectacular. All the snuffs with the Princes name are excellent. I'm not sure if I have a favorite yet, but keeping 2 or 3 on hand is a good idea.

Since Sharrow (who now manufacture the Fribourg & Treyer range) added their own Princes to their list I rarely buy this item as it can’t be purchased in bulk and it is considerably more expensive by the tin. In my opinion these siblings share the same colour, moisture and grind and are both dark and heavy - as one would expect. Princes is more elaborate than Wilson’s alternative. The most noticable difference is with the Tonquin essence. The best way to appreciate Tonquin, however, is to obtain fresh beans and use them with an unscented natural snuff. This is one of the oldest, simplest and most natural methods of imparting a wonderful flavour to snuff. F&T Princes snuff as made by Sharrow is not as coarse as the original and, as I recall, it is more scented. The overall quality remains high.

Dominating musk flavour and that´s a good thing, as I love musk. The floral´s (Geranium) also not too obscurely represented, adds a very nice touch. Don´t get to much of the Tonka bean. Basically there are the same ingredients, as in the Macouba, but the missing sandalwood seems to make a huge difference. The Princes doesn´t get annoying or penetrating at all. But it burns a bit sharp, at first. Deep, pleasently lingering, long lasting scent. Very dark and very moist. No difficulties in shoving it up, though some have a few problems with keeping it where it belongs. Starts a good secretion. A good choice for relaxed evenings.

I haven't had many F&T's. I got this one out of curiosity. I must say at 1st I felt I didn't like it, mainly due to the moistness, which I think is too much. The flavor essence was pleasant enough though. But I poured it out into a large bowl and stirred it around a bit, and left it out overnight. The next morning, it was just right. I poured it back in it's tube container, and went to work. When I got home, I opened it up, and using a snuff spoon, did some. Well, now it is very nice. That overnight out made it much better to me. This has a bold strong flavor that lingers well. Not being a scent expert, I'll take the words of the other reviewers as to what this is. I will say that I find this very pleasureable. It still had some moisture, just not too much, the right amount, to me, and the coarser grind made it very easy to snuff. I could use this every day, and just might. 3 stars I'd call OK, this is good, so I give it 4.

Dark brown to black in colour, moist and coarsely ground, this snuff has a good leathery, earthy tobacco base, a heft nose burn and a scent that reminds me of good turkish delight (rose and lemon), with a hint of geranium. The flavours are not overpowering, but do linger nicely. I would have given top marks, but this snuff is difficult to keep in the nose due to the grind and moistness (a lot may end up on your lap or upper lip!). Samuel Gawiths Princes Gold or Light is similar in flavour, but much easier to take as an all day snuff. For after dinner. Nicotine levels low to medium. 7/10.

Full bodied heavy black Zimbabwe with a lasting geranium dominating floral scent. A nice amount of lemon balances this all out very well. The geranium is one scent I crave from time to time so having a tube of F&T around is a must for me now. There are still a few more availible F&T's I need to complete my collection. I understand a few of them have geranium in them. Lucky me!

This is a very distinct F&T snuff. Dark, coarse and moist, I find it smoky (almost edible) and attractive. Memorable. It is easy to take, but can be clogging. Noticeable tobacco burn. It is not scented loudly. Instead, its flavor is of deep and obscure character. I find this snuff ideal for the winter, to relax, contemplate and experience its fine qualities.

Course milled and very dark, apparently made for the Prince Regent when he was wearing dark clothing so as not to be noticeable if he spilled a few grains on his coat. I find course snuffs the most difficult to get along with and it usually makes me sneeze, which is a shame because I think it has a delicious flavour. Apparently the flavour comes completely from the tobacco blend rather than added perfumes as an old listing I have shows it has unflavoured. If that is the case its an expertly contrived blend from some long forgotten blender.

This is a very moist snuff, can be hard to snuff sometimes.
It is dark tobacco with a distinctive smokey flavour reminiscent of Latakia, but is apparently fire-cured Zimbabwe leaf. If De Kralingse' Latakia snuff is not really made of Latakia... then I have to say, Princes Snuff by FT actually seems to remind me of
Latakia the most.
I don't find the nicotine level to be very high. The coarseness and moisture is something you notice right away, however, it's nice not having to sneeze after you snuff.
The nose is mostly musk and floral, I do not smell the tonquin at all ... well at least not like smoking a pipeful of Sam Gawith's 1792 flake ...
Princes is a good snuff, if you like smoky tobaccos, this is a winner.
Princes snuff will be in my regular daily rotation, as well as Poschl's Robby Top Mint as long as I can continue finding it at the tobacconist.

This is an acquired taste. Very heavy and strong tasting. If you are the type of person that can adjust to the Islay malt whisky, then this is probably your thing.

This is a course, moist, heavily scented snuff. Very strong musk scent that pretty much overpowers the tonquin and geranium boubon flavors that are said to be ingredients as well. To me the scent of this one stays in the nose longer than any other snuff I have tried and when it does finally start to fade there is an odd undertone that I cannot place but is not very pleasant. Also, it is almost too moist and can be problematic keeping in the nose when using a pinch technique as pinching can tend to make it bond together. I would recommend using a spoon for this one.

crazy good snuff in my opinion. Though Ican't place the scents they seem to be blended into their own special princeness. Easy easy to take snuff. Like a good cologne for a man who isn't afraid to reak of flowers.

Coarse, black and pleasantly moist, Princes has a gentle floral flavour with an underlying muskiness which I find grows on me all the time. It does take a fairly hefty sniff to get it to stay where it belongs but that isn't a problem. For day to day use I tend to prefer a somewhat plainer version of Princes, but this one will always have a place in my collection.
