Excellent blend! A little more complex than the London Brown. This may be my top choice in their plain category. It's between this and the London Brown. Again I am rehydrating from the tap box so I do not know what intricacies are missing. As a tobacco I would guess this is a mix of the Black Rappee and McCombie, of course that would be putting it simply. After a little more study I will go for a bulk buy for sure. These and some of the KB's.

This is a dark - nearly black, course and moist rappee snuff. One could easily mistake it for Black Rappee, and if I did not have them both here side by side, I would not be able to tell the difference. However, since I do have both, I can say confidently that Scotch Black has all of the wood smoke, peat, coal, tar, type scents that Black Rapee does, but they are more pronounced here. The snuff's flavor on the whole is richer and more robust. There is a sublte nut flavor to it as well, which presumably a blending of another tobacco variety. Its actually quite amazing that this delicate side can be detected amidst the robust fullness, but its there all the same. Samuel Gawith's website describes Black Rapee as being a single tobacco, and Scotch Black as being a mix, so I guess that is what I am tasting. I would choose this one over Black Rapee, but either one will satisfy me. Its just my personal preference. I could not use these rappee types all day though, as I find them clogging.
Its somewaht tricky to take, you may actually have to force it into your nose, and pinch the nose closed to prevent it falling out. Once moistened by your nose, it will stay for awhile, though.
Watch out for the plastic tap out dispensers that these are sold in. They have a tendency to not be airtight and the moist snuffs like these will dry out and if shaken you may think you purchased a tin of pea gravel. Rehydrating is always possible with these, but bulk drums are a better option. Excellent dark snuff. Samuel Gawith really excels in the rappee area.

Very dark brown, medium dry and fairly coarse. Just tobacco and tasty with it.
