I bought this snuff before I realized there was a Toque Natural. I intended to get something with a natural tobacco flavor but I was pleasantly surprised. Some sort of floral thing is going on in this snuff that people seem to like to refer to as SP. This has definitely made me want to explore the world of SPs out there and has also made me want to see what other delicious florals Toque has to offer.

I have to point out I have a bias as I review this snuff:
this is an SP, and after buying many snuffs (and especially all Toques) to explore and learn, I learned that SPs really don't seem to be the type of snuff for me. They all seem to have in varying degrees this one same certain sort of smell which I would call perfumey when its very strong. Original has the same smell as Berwick Brown does (which was intolerably strong there in the Berwick Brown) but its not nearly as bad, in fact its barely there at all in this Toque Original at all, but it is still there and I still can detect it (its the same smell I get in all SPs I've tried so far, that's actually in fact how I have come to identify an SP even if I didn't see one called an SP, I've come to know that smell = SP).
I think the one common ingredient that I am smelling that strikes me like this is the 'bergamont'(?) but I am completely guessing on that and I don't know what that actually even is, or then what that's actually intended to smell like.
This is not a bad one as far as they go, and think I will eventually be able finish this 10g tin of it up, but am not likely to buy it again, and it gets 3 stars from me also for this reason -- that its just not my type of snuff.

The Toques I've tried so far have more in common than sets them apart, and tend to err on the side of subtlety, if they err at all. An ultra-clean tobacco base that seems tailor made for snuff, rather than something adapted from smoking tobacco, is what sets this brand apart from the rest for me. The Original is simply one of the best SP's out there, and one of my very favorite Toque's. A light citrus note, especially lemon, with a hint of bergamot, and something else in the background that makes everything seem "cleaner" than in some other SP's I've tried. A bit of smooth leather, a moderate burn (which is good), and the distinctive Toque base underlie the subtle, citrusy top notes. As with all Toque's I've tried, it doesn't really begin to show its character until its been open at least 24 hours. Moderately high nicotine, delivered rather more slowly than some other SP's I've tried. I wouldn't want to run out of this one.

Great combination of citrus and menthol, I don't believe is meant to be pinch but to each his or hers own, it could burn a little but nothing to serious it does not make my nose runny, it took me a while to stop it from going to the back of my throat I don't think i buy it again due to the low nicotine content that this seems to have, but you can definitively tell there is great quality on this one.

I hadn't noticed a strong nicotine association with this one but Toque definitely got this one right! I accidentally ordered a "natural" instead of this one the first time and was heart-sick for a while but the natural kind of grew on me too but it's not nearly as great as this one. The light citrus after-tone is greatly appreciated and is highly anticipated, especially in the mornings for some reason. It's easy to take a little too much and have it go to the the eye but the burn is quite pleasant as long as you don't take a huge snort. Definitely not a beginners snuff and probably more of an experienced users forte. It doesn't compact in the fingers which is nice and there is just the right amount of menthol which is almost none. I bought a 10 gram tin and I'm very glad that it was in stock ( unlike the mighty coke flavor) The only problem I have with Toque ( if any) is that the aluminum tins are so delicate that they lose their round in the mail and in the pockets sometimes which compromises the sealing ability but it's still a very nice product and one that I will be purchasing for a long time to come. I don't like plain snuffs and this is as close to one as I will ever get but there is no sickening menthol taste so you can pretty much indulge in as much as you want and that is a good thing! Very ,very great product...did I say that already? well, it stands to be said more than once. Excellent!
4.83 high quality stars

Many other manufacturers play on the antiquity and tradition of their SP recipes, but with this offering, Toque could send them back to their respective drawing boards. Peppery, citrus and a refreshing nicotine lift fading to a pleasant and lasting tobacco base. I don't know if it's my imagination, or the power of association, but there sometimes seems to be something in there with a tannic heave, bringing an Earl Grey quality to the bergamot, and making this the perfect accompaniment to a good cup of tea.
The truly outstanding quality of Toque's SP is the texture. It's as if the company has hired those boffins from the soap powder company and created a snuff comprised of perfect spheres. It's smooth and fine, and rolls around your fingers like a thousand tiny ball bearings before coating the inside of the nose with almost an engineered perfection. It's fine, but the texture means that anyone can snuff it, and is suitable for beginner and expert alike.
The best SP available on the market today. If brand loyalty or conservatism is currently keeping you with a long-loved favourite, don't feel bad about abandoning it for Toque. You'll feel better for it in the long run. I know I did. Sorry, Mr. McChrystal.

This is the snuff I use more of than any other. When I first got the tin, I really didn't think it was all that great, and preferred Wilson's Best SP - but time changed that. I think the Toque tin needed a bit of air to really open up and deliver. I find it's strength somewhere between Best SP and Tom Buck. I use it all day long without any troubles, and the wonderful scent keeps me coming back.

A snuffer since June, I'm a total beginner and in the process of experimenting with the myriad brands out there, with a biased towards 'scented'. I saw the that many were giving high marks for Toque Original and decided to give it a whirl. A screw-top tin! Bliss, all the others had have had fiddly "pull straight off". Smelling it as it sits in the tin, I found a strong tobacco scent quite noticeable, and I would also hazard a whiff of ammonia. The first tentative pinch was not as fine as others I've sampled. The tobacco Flavour was obvious and well-structured, and a citrus lemon flavour lingering at the back of the nose was quite unexpected. Pleasantly head-clearing and refreshing, at this rate I can see myself with a constant supply of the T.Original. Very much worth a try.

Having heard so much about this snuff I decided to be bold, temporarily abandon long held loyalties, and order a sample. The first observation is that it is truly demigros in mill and therefore less penetrating and pungent then, say, J&H Wilsons No.1. Many (if not most) S.Ps have, over the last 40 years or so, become much finer in grind so this is ideal for beginners and experienced alike. It is wonderfully textured and feels good to grasp. No manufacturer can successfully counterfeit a competitors snuff so naturally this is different in flavour from other S.Ps. No mistaking, however, that this is S.P and is a welcome addition to the best-loved snuff in the medium class. Recommended to all.

My pinch of snuff is always small, so I don't always get the nicotine rush with other brands. But with Toque Original even a small pinch is capable of delivering a long lasting nicotine hit.

Standard good quality Toque tobacco base, scented with bergamot in the style of an SP. I experienced a lot of ammonia initially with this snuff, but after airing, I really began to appreciate it. Similar to Wilsons Tom Buck and Best SP, but not as good or complex as Toque SP Extra. Has a tendency to hit the throat. 7/10.

There ain´t the slightest chance you won´t love this snuff. Perfect flavouring, maybe a bit tricky to sniff for a beginner, as it´s a pretty fine grind. SP at its best. Go for the big, 25g tin. Or make it 2, you really won´t be without this snuff for quite a while.

This is - not to beat about the bush - a damn good, solid, tasty, all-day, every-day snuff: it's a good 'un. I'm a newbie in the delightful world of snuff so I don't have a lot to compare it too but if I did have a quibble at all with this fine product I'd say that - to my taste at least - it could stand a tiny bit more of the bergamot/citrus that's floating above the foundation of the (undoubtedly very fine) tobacco base. Wilson's Gold Label, for instance, pitches these at a level that I find more refreshing (though I certainly prefer the grind and the tobacco of the Toque). That being said, I'd always want to have a tin of Original on hand.

A fantastic snuff. Clean citrus top note over a wonderful tobacco flavor. This one is not just a keeper, but sets the bar for all other snuffs I try.
The only problem is I have a hard time keeping my nose out of it.

Same great grind and base as the other Toque products I have tried. Nice mellow citrus flavor without overpowering the smooth tobacco finish. I liked Wilson's Tom Buck too but ooh is it strong in flavor. Ruins my nose in a couple hours of snuffing If I use it alot. I did not have that issue with this offering from Toque. I can see this being on my order list everytime.

This is at the top of my SP list. It is so easy to take and does not have the furniture polish quality that Wilsons has sometimes. Just a nice citrus scent that is not sweet or bitter or artificial.

This was the first snuff offered by the new snuff company, Toque. Now its commonly called "Original" instead of "Toque" or "Toque Tobacco".
This one is right up there with the classic SPs. For it is indeed an SP and a fine one too.
You may compare it to well knowns such as Wilson's Best SP or Tom Buck.
The traditional bergamot is clearly the primary scent. This provides a nice opening and lifting effect. The grind and moisture are medium, and the nicotine is medium high. The color is light brown, but darker than Wilson's.
This is a good solid foundation for the Toque company and it is definatley competitive with the "old school" SPs

When it comes to SP snuffs (of which I am a big fan) it used to be a tricky choice between Wilson's Best SP and Tom Buck with J&H Wilson's SP No 1 in third place. Now it's a three horse race and the J&H Wilson's SP gets rather neglected. Toque Original is a perfect, classic SP in the age old tradition. It might be the newest SP on the market but it ranks with the oldest in every respect. Just the right amount of citrus/bergamot coupled with that excellent base snuff makes this a superbly refreshing, head-clearing and satisfying snuff, perfect for all day use. I hope I never find I've run out of it!

This is the second SP that I've tried and I have to say it's very nice. It's got that great bergamot flavor and maybe a hint of orange as well. It also has a sort of...leathery scent to it and I detect a slight flowery scent, maybe rose. Overall, it's some good stuff.

And I do like bergamot as well. It is so pleasant to snuff with Toque. Relaxing with the consistency of the grind and strength of all these flavors is very enjoyable. The more I use Toque the more Toque I use. I rebuke all ye that would call themselves snuffers that have not yet tried Toque.

Ons can easily survive on this snuff alone for ages. It has the nice citrus tones but it does not kill the tobacco flavour. A very well balanced snuff and one of which I always have some extra tins in my freezer. Can't risk running out of stock.

The un-toasted one of Toque's top two. The flavor and strength compare favorably to any SP I've had yet. I would have to pick this one as my 'desert isle' snuff, as much for the satisfaction as the strong, clean citrus flavor. The Original is also one of the least congestive snuffs I've had. Supposedly Toque's snuffs are all around the same strength, but this one hit's me the hardest. I don't work for Toque and didn't get any free samples, I just love the Original!

The amazing thing about Toque original is that its made by a (literally) brand new snuff company and gives the old established makes a real run for their money. I never thought that any SP could equal Wilson's best, but the Original certainly does and in actual fact I think it surpasses it. For me, the mark of an SP is whether you can use it as an all day snuff without getting bored of it. I now use the original day-in, day-out; from the first pinch in the morning to the last at night its enjoyable and satisfying. A great citrus tang and good tobacco flavour make this one of those rarities - a perfect snuff.

When I first tried this I liked it but it wasn't an everyday for me. After more experiance when I fell in love with Tom Buck, I went back to this snuff. Now I use it all the time, I will probably buy this instead of Tom Buck next time. Very good SP type snuff, that compares in flavor to Tom Buck more then WoS Best SP. Love it!

took me a while to find out how good and comlex this one is.
the grind is a bit too fine and dry for my taste, but suh is the english way of things.
the flavor is what makes this snuff great (and is, of course, what should make any great snuff great).
i detect a citrus (orange) note and something leathery. and a lot of other tastes i finf hard to put a label on. something spicey.
it is more a hot than a cold snuff, which means it does only fit my mood on some days, but then it seems perfect. somehow the taste seems "classic" to me. distinct, timeless, no nonsense.
i occasionally moisten it a bit to make it easier to sniff.
