I had this in my snuff box for weeks, right until the first try i did store it and not use it again until 3 days ago. Now the box is half empty. ^^ I still struggle from time to time with sniffing. Its almost like pulver. Extra fine if you ask me. Taste is straight, toasted tobacco. I didnt find any other scents. Just pure straight toasted tobacco.
I like it. If you dont care about grind, give this a try. Guess it isnt that good for rookies.

My understanding is that this is the most widely distrubuted snuff in the UK: the most readily obtainable point of sale snuff. No doubt, its availablity is due to it being now owned (along with Hedges) by the giant conglomerate: Imperial Tobacco.
Well, the snuff is very nice. Mostly plain with a gentle bergamot scenting. The grind is finer than Wilson of Sharrow's Best SP, and the bergamot scenting is more toned down. The closest WoS SP to this one would probably be SP2. The flavor in this is not unlike the Gawith Hoggarth SP, though the grinds are totally different. I have a vacuum sealed 25g tin in reserve, so I will reevaluate this snuff when the little 5g tin is gone.

Mid brown, finely ground and moist when fresh. I first sampled this from a fresh 25g vacuum tin and hated it, mainly because it reeked of cheap chocolate and ammonia. I have now left it to air for three months and must say it is better stale. The chocolate aroma still remains, but without the ammonia, which allows some tobacco flavour, liquorice and very subtle bergamot to become detectable. Nicotine is medium to high. There are much better SPs out there without looking too hard. 4/10.

Quite a good, classic SP snuff here. Appears to me the character of this snuff is foremost plain (and what an excellent tobacco flavour!) with the mild addition of bergamot. The real strength of this snuff is the base tobacco. Very fine grind, but still easy to take. Works perfectly as an all day snuff. Available in a 5g and a 25g tin.

This obscure snuff is now becoming my everyday S.P. snuff. It has the right balance of tobacco and citrus notes to make it a very good snuff. The grind is fine but not fine like a toast or American snuff. It is very easy to take. The snuff comes in a very tiny plastic rectangular tin with a metal lid. This is not a good closing tin. A large 25g plus tin is round with a vaccum packed twist off top. I recomend the small tin to try it out.

I've got to re-review this. My dear wife bought me a large tin a week ago as she just happened to see it at a local store. Ive been using it exclusively now since then and just about finished the tin. The resaon for the re-review is that using this comes directly after going on a US scotch bonanza and the first thing that I noticed is that, for me anyway, it resembles the smoky flavour of some US snuffs. I'm also getting large wafts of chocolate when I open the tin, particularly when it was brand new. Prior to this, I'd not used this in a while and I'm wondering if there has been a slight change in the recipe - it's just not the way I remember it and it seems just that more flavoured. This has now gone up in my esteem quite a lot to the point where I would now strongly recommend it to Scotch or HDT lovers.

Top Mill was the choice of the Northerner whereas S.P No.1 prevailed in the south of England. Most enduring snuffs are those that rely primarily on natural tobacco flavours for their pungency. S.P No.1 and Top Mill are reasonable examples. S.P is a brown snuff with just a hint of citrus whereas Top Mill is described as having “added flavour in a higher concentration.”. Most places in the UK that sell tobacco still have S.P No.1 available. J&H Wilson's account for 80% of UK snuff consumption and SP is now available in vacuum-sealed tins for extra freshness. This is a fine, pungent snuff with a complex flavour that is hard to decipher. There is also a hint of tea. This is a good snuff for those wishing to avoid overt additional flavouring. Don't, however, buy the little blue boxes - get the airtight tin instead as it does make a difference.

I've come back to this old favourite after some away from it, working my way through other snuffs that I can now get online. I have to say I am pleased that I have revisited it. Along with the Medicated No. 99 this is where my snuffing started over 35 years ago and it isn't good to ignore old friends. It still tastes as it always did, fine (sneezy if care isn't taken), medium moisture and a light brown colour. While the flavour of plain tobacco predominates there is a very refreshing undertone of citrus/bergamot as one would expect of an SP. It's one that every snuff taker should try!

Upon opening the tin, the tobacco aroma predominates with only a very slight hint of citrus. Slightly more moist than Wilsons Best SP, i find this snuff is less inclined to go straight to the back of the throat. In the nose the citrus aroma is much more mellow than Wilsons Best and disappears quickly leaving you with the pleasant base tobacco flavour. In some ways this was more what i was expecting from an SP snuff rather than the sharp citrus flavour that dominates Wilsons. I would recommend this to those who want an everyday natural tobacco snuff.

A good solid snuff, nothing exceptional just a nice all day SP. Whilst it lacks the character of something like Toque Original or Wilsons Best, it still has its own distinctive flavour with Bergamot and Citrus floating around in there.
