Reviews for von Eicken (Chapman/Lotzbeck) Chapman Strong

Like ermtony mentioned, it´s kinda strange, why they called this particular blend "Strong", when compared to the Vanilla and/or Virginia it´s neither stronger in nic or flavour. But besides the crappy dispenser (cool that it´s refillable and easy to open, but the lid tore after the 2nd use....) it is a bit different to those other 2. Where the others seem to have a stronger pipe tobacco character, this one reminds me more of the Von Eicken small cigars (Candlelight). Unfortunately, it comes with the sweetener used there. Still not really bad, but it could be far better without this slightly sickening sweetness. Although it´s produced in Germany, it isn´t available here. Mainly distributed in Poland.

I must say I'm not altogether sure why why this snuff is name "strong" as it doesn't appear to be any stronger in nicotine or flavour than the Chapman Virginia snuff. It does have some flavouring though the plain, old cigar-like tobacco does predominate. Along with that I get a touch of sweetness and vanilla. In grind and moisture it is the twin of the Virginia - medium-fine, fluffy and medium-dry. Not at all bad but I prefer the Virginia, it being the plainer of the two. The plastic flip-top box suffers the same design flaw as that of the Virginia. It broke off after a couple of uses. No big problem but it is somewhat annoying.

Chapman's are not my favorite they all have an odd pipe tobacco scent to them. Its not too bad as a once in a while snuff. Has a light tone of swisher sweet cigars, strong tea & a little redman chew. Golden brown in color with a medium grind medium moisture.
