Reviews for Gawith Hoggarth Camphor Menthol

This has a grind that is a bit finer than most of Gawith Hoggarth's. The menthol is moderate - more than McChrystal's O&G but considerably less than most of Wilsons and Hedges. I like menthol more when its moderate like this, so this is probably one of the few tradtional English Medicated snuffs that will go on my permanent list. I also love camphor. This does not hold a candle to Wilson's fabulous Camphor & Mild though. Good. Possible keeper. Update: Got a 25g tub of this and the menthol is much stronger, it almost overpowers the camphor. Still a 3 star snuff and a keeper. Very clean and fresh feeling, but gives a bit of throat irritation.

I can see why this is GH´s top seller. The balance of tobacco, camphor and menthol is just as perfect, as it could be here. The "competitors" all have something, more or less, that bothers me, too much or cheap menthol flavouring, or an unfortunate grade of grind. It´s all fine here. The refreshing effect is splendid, it´s easy to take and the "wake up factor" is hardly beatable. The flavour´s also quite long lasting. Great snuff!

This is a great snuff when you have a cold. It opens the sinuses for about an hour and makes you feel a lot better. Its not called a medicated snuff for nothing. So it is a four star snuff if you need some medicine, three star if you just want some snuff.

Mid brown, medium grind and moisture, and suitable for absolute novices. This snuff is a straightforward combination of camphor and menthol, which is very similar to McChrystals O&G in style. The menthol levels are moderate and not too overpowering - just enough to cool and clear the nostrils on a warm sunny day, whilst the camphor shines through. There is none of the citrus character of O&G, but the simplicity of this snuff and excellent tobacco base make it refreshingly pleasurable. 9/10.

I have come to the conclusion that while menthol snuffs are not generally to my taste, it's quite a different matter when the menthol is combined with camphor. While not quite as complex as McChrystal's O&G, Gawith Hoggarth's CM is similar to Samuel Gawith's ZIP and is certainly a snuff I wouldn't want to be without. It has a higher level of menthol than O&G, somewhat masking the flavour of the tobacco and for that reason alone I find myself turning to it rather less frequently than O&G. On the other hand, CM is perfect for clearing my nose once the hay fever season starts. A good 4.5 stars for this one.

I rated this coarse for grind, it seems to be around the same grind as Poschl Gletscher Prise. The flavor is way higher menthol than the camphor which seems to be unavoidable with most menthol flavor blends. I love the 10 gram containers this comes in it has a rubber flip top so you shake some out and pinch it off the back of your hand. At least that is the way I have come up with. I will buy this again.

Strong, pungent menthol lovers snuff. The camphor gives it a sort 'cold medicine' flavour so a genuinely medicated snuff. My criticism of this is that you only taste the ingredients and not the tobacco, and I always find that camphor does that too a brand. However, this is a nice snuff.

Interesting menthol snuff with good dose of camphor. I normally prefer McCrystal's O & G but this provides a nice change of pace. The scent also stays with you for a long time after using.

Like this one a lot. Definatly an interesting blending of M and C. With a neat little soapy hint in there that I find to be quite tasty. I've found this to be the best snuff in the world for covering nasty scents. If you ever have to clean a grease trap this is the snuff for you! Bob

This is a great snuff...If you like menthol. It can absolutely be an all day sniffer...if you like menthol. I love the amount of camphor, and it blends well with the menthol. so if you REALLY REALLY LOVE menthol then this should scratch your itch. I keep a few tins around for the cold/flue season...nothing clears up my head better.

This is one snuff that clears me out every time when I am clogged. A fairly strong menthol with a nice balance between the camphor and menthol. A nice addition to any menthol fans collection.

I am a great fan of camphor snuffs, and, although this is not my favourite, as there is a little too much menthol for my taste, I still find this a refreshing snuff to use and I always try to keep a tin in the collection.
