I agree with some of the other reviews, that among all the Toasts, this one most closely resembles a Scotch. In fact, If you put this side by side with Starr Scotch, you could almost forget which was the toast and which was the scotch. Its nice to see this, as it shows evidence of the historical relationship between these two snuff types. The taste is the plainest of the toasts. I has't got any of that buttey or nutty flavor that most of them have, and there is not much sweetness here as found in some toasts. Its the plainest one I've tasted. I quite like it, and like several other toasts, there is something unique about each one.

A very pale buff colour, extra finely ground, quite moist for a toast, and sampled from a 25g tub. This snuff is the finest ground English snuff I know of, and more closely resembles the plain Scotches (such as Stoker's Plain) than the toasts from Samuel Gawith, Toque Wilsons and Fribourg & Treyer. The moistness means it doesn't hit the throat if carefully sniffed. The scent is initially pure tobacco, followed by a gentle smokiness. A bitter sinus drip occasionally follows. Fans of American Scotches may like this, but I much prefer the buttery, oaky, toasted character of the F&T High Dry Toast. 5/10.

Where other HDT´s are strong in the tobacco flavour, this one´s more pronounced, just like the US scotches, on the smokey flavour. But the Irish D is far from being as strong in nicotine or deep in flavour as any (plain) scotch I´ve come across. A bit of care has to be taken when sniffing it. Wouldn´t recommend this snuff, as there are plenty of better scotches and/or HDT´s available, this just has to be the worst of them.

This toast is finer and dryer than some American Scotch snuffs. You must be very, very careful when sniffing it. I enjoy the flavor, but it seems quite simple. Unlike other toast style snuffs, you don't get the nutty or leathery scents, you just get plain tobacco. Although it is simple, it is still very good.

A good all round high dry toast, though not as good as some.
