Somewhat plainer than even the "Plain" one offered from Samuel Gawith. Its also a little finer milled. I really get very little scent at all, except a slight smokieness. I went through my first tin of this without reviewing. This review is based on a second tin which is significantly drier that I got in a trade with another snuff taker. Others have mentioned coal or peat scents. That seems consistant with this one. I detect no citrus. I will rehydrate this and then re-evaluate. UPDATE: Better than rehydrating, I got a fresh mini tub direct from the mill. This snuff should be moist, not medium. Its still the plainest KB I've had but the freshness earns it another star. Not as peaty or smokey as Samuel Gawith's KB Plain.

A very unique flavour, coal and peat have been mentioned and that´s very fitting. Like with the SG version, I see this stuff being scraped off old tires. Meant more positive than it might sound. This is honest, no bullshit, working man (and woman) snuff. Not as coarse, as the SG version and not as dark in colour. It seems, there´s something citric in here as well, although very soft. Really a strong and better example of Gawith Hogarth´s snuff craftsmanship.

If you are going to buy a Kendal Brown, you should buy one made in a Kendal mill. This is the real thing. It is not a perfumed snuff that might be offered by an Oxford don at a dinner party, but a real working man's snuff. It is the kind a Lakelands farmer or a Yorkshire miner would use all day long. It has a nice smokey flavor- the kind of smoke that comes off an oak and peat fire. Nice and hearty. Highly recommended.

I enjoy GH’s Kendal Brown. It is not floral, nor fruity, nor fermented, nor mentholated. It has a satisfying main tobacco flavor with notes that accentuate the tobacco experience. I can definitely see what sandy130674 considers when mentioning coal. I have read somebody referring to it as ashy. This is particularly what I like the most of this snuff. It is easier to take than finer GH’s grinds and it gives a moderate tobacco burn that satisfies. If you like unflavored tobacco snuff you may enjoy this one.

Pungent earthy tobacco, with some citrus and coal tar and an average nicotine kick. Quite a lot of burn on the nose; definitely an after dinner snuff, but strangely does not leave you craving for more.

Another review said it was moist and if it is dry it is not good. The package I got is vary dry burns like hell and has no citrus that I can detect. I will only give this one 1 star. I can't see me ordering this again with other good SPs out there.

Coursely milled and full of flavour, this is a classic English snuff. Course ground snuffs are an aquired taste and although they are easy to take they can be pretty potent - so this unlikely to appeal to new snuffers. The flavour is of plain tobacco with a citrus or lemon tang in the background. This is a snuff that really needs keeping in good conditions as it is fairly moist. An airtight container for the bulk supply is essential and certainly no more than a days worth of the snuff should be decanted into a snuff box. Dry Kendal Brown is not a good thing and is very sneezey.

Slightly lighter in colour and finer in grind than the Samuel Gawith Kendal Browns but very nice in its own right. The flavouring is more subtle too. As time goes on I find myself enjoying this one more and more.
