I got a small bag of this as a sample and enjoyed a slight berry flavor, but it was quite weak. I later acquired a full can of this and it is much different! Not a whole lot of berry flavor, but it was minty and very similar to mint lifesavers. Altogether a very enjoyable snuff that I will finish rather quickly.

Wint-O-Green Lifesavers ground into a moist tobacco, thats what this reminds me of. Very easy to take due to the moisture and grind. Does give a good burn at first, but it subsides rather quickly. I will always have some of this on hand.

Checkerberry seems to be the bridge between American moist snuffs (dip) and American dry snuffs. Only one of two currently made US snuffs that are not Scotches (the other being Maccoboy) makes Checkerberry quite unique. The flavor, checkerberry, also known as tea berry is, or once was, quite common in chewing gum and other sweet treats. It bears resemblance to wintergreen, since checkerberry is the actual berry of the wintergreen herb. Wintergreen is quite common among the moist snuffs, but its quite rare among dry ones. The moisture level of this is makes it an easy enough one for a beginner to take, and the nicotine is quite ample. There is a bit of nose burn with it, but that fades quickly enough. The sweet nature of it, of course makes it suitable for dipping as many other reviews have mentioned. The flavor of course, is not for everyone being somewhat medicinal. Solid three stars from me though, and its uniqueness in the snuff world will assure it a permanent place in my collection for occasional use.

The moisture makes this one besides the Railroad Mills Maccoboy a very unusual american snuff. Well, the extraordinary flavouring also, of course. Though the very first moment after sniffing suggests burnt plastic, it immediately turns to a very pronounced, but not too sharp wintergreen taste. Well, it ain´t too sharp for a few sniffs, but not really suitable for all day use. Would I rebuy it? Don´t think so. But I don´t regret it, neither.

Upon opening the tin, I was a little surprised at how moist this snuff was. There were of course a few little clumps, but they seemed to break up easy enough. The smell was also pleasantly appealing. I knew in advance it was wintergreen, as may reviewers have commented that it reminds them of Kodiak. I can't imagine snorting Kodiak, so I was a little nervous about the first sniff. Rather than a shocking wintergreen blast, I found that the flavor was mild and rather enjoyable. It dissipates quickly though, and leaves only a subtle tingle and a hint of aroma. Despite it's moisture, it doesn't seem to clog your nose and I have yet to notice any real sinus drip with this snuff. Perhaps its the uniqueness, but I have certainly taken a shine to this snuff. It is definitely not a typical american scotch. I suspect this will be either a "love it or hate it" snuff for most, but I will certainly be picking up another can.

It seems like Skoal that has been ground down a bit. It is not the best in my book but I have always been a Cope man.

I got a can of this in a trade from Bigbuyer (good trader btw).
I was expecting medicine/wintergreen but I got Birch beer! It's an interesting snuff. Pretty hard to take because of the moisture, but pleasant in the nose once you do get it.
When this can is gone I won't go looking for it again but I'm glad I tried it.

People have remarked upon the medicinal aromas. This is the salicylic acid. It explains why to me, it immediately hit me as TCP, a proprietary antiseptic. In the UK, there is a type of candy called "Tunes" - sort of faux medicinal sweetie that has cherry menthol in it, I think. There is also the flavour of Root Beer - not surprising either, since that also uses wintergreen (alternative name) in some formulations. It is also clearly designed to be used orally, though I have never seen this done. I just put it up my nose or stick it behind my ears. Haven't we all?
My first impressions of Checkerberry, my first American Snuff, courtesy Nicotinerush, was a realisation that I might one day run out of it.
It conjours up images of Thoreau, living a life of quiet desperation until, he wanders into Concord and asks the local drugstore chemist to make him up some snuff to help with his muddled head.
You have to be careful not to compact it when taking a pinch. The experience of Checkerberry is pleasurable and not unlike the sort of experience you get with Schmaltzlers - that kind of desserty, cakey experience, only with the flavour of elastoplast.

Okay so this is kind of an odd scent for a snuff but anybody who uses oral dip will be very familiar with this one, it's like Kodiak wintergreen (a brand/flavor of dip) for my nose. A very strong wintergreen/teaberry scent that i enjoy quite a bit possibly due to my history with Kodiak wintergreen though.
It is very moist for an american snuff i would compare it moisturewise to a fresh tin of Wislons of Sharrow "best dark".
This one is also good orally but i prefer regular dip for that and this will be my Kodiak for the nose.

The dictionary states that checkerberry is a shrub which leaves yield wintergreen oil. This is an interesting snuff. It is a little moist, easy to take, with a little burn. I do not find it to be quite a menthol snuff. It reminds me of the chewing gum that came in old baseball card packets. My lady said that it smells like “Pepto Bismol.” I find it enjoyable, but not an all day snuff. I am glad to have tried it. I keep it for variety.

I really can't make my mind up about this one. On the one hand I find the antiseptic Germolene/Dettol/Elastoplast scent a bit cloying (not to mention unexpected in a snuff) but on the other hand I find myself going back for more! It's of medium grind, moist and a mid red-brown colour. Not at all bad in many ways though I'm not certain I would reorder it. I hesitate to try it orally in spite of what others have suggested - it might feel just too much like eating Germolene! [Edit] - Okay.... I decided I really don't care for this one at all. I now have a nearly full 1.15 oz can up for grabs - anything to swap?

With a scent that seems to me to be a cross between dentyne and dettol this is one unique snuff a strongly medicinal smell which i like. Sometimes the why and the when are as important as the what and this is the case here. For me this is a great snuff for those days when your nasal dryness is spoiling your snuffing pleasure as this is a moist snuff thats easy to use and clears my nose like a menthol making it easy to breathe. I would imagine this is one of those love it or hate snuffs but i love it so an easy five stars.

This is one that is made more for the lip than the nose I believe, but can be enjoyed either way. The initial scent is a strongly fermented tobacco which fades gradually into the checkerberry scent. Anyone who has chewed Checkerberry gum will know the aroma. A bit on the strong side, it definitely takes some getting used to.

Definitely different from the rest of Swisher snuffs. This one is darker and semi-moist. To me it has a scent of deep fermented tobacco with a splash of checkerberry. I enjoy this one orally over nasal use but still is fairly good in the nose. Easy to take with a decent amount of satisfaction.
