Reviews for Bernard Zwiefacher

Wikipedia says, "The first documented usage of the word Zwiefach was in 1780. It loosely translates as "two times". Although this may be indicative of the two different time signatures, It is believed that the title actually refers to the couple being tightly wound against each other, a departure from earlier traditions." The dance is a traditional Bavarian one, combining two parts. The key words here are "couple being tightly wound against each other". This is the quintessential halb-shmalzler, or the perfect marriage between snuff and schmalzler. This is a moderatley mentholated, herbal and sweet snuff, with everything rich and deep and cake like that a schmalzler has. Most German menthol snuffs are not very good and tend to overdo both the menthol and the sweetness, but this one is exceptional. Its a wonderful treat and its very easy to overindulge. Not just another excellent offering from Bernard, but a unique feat of tobacco blending skill. The dance is depicted on the beautiful snuff dispenser.

An absolutely sublime concoction that winds up tasting like smoked, sweetened ham, cake for desert, and creamy coffe coffee and brandy by the fireside all at once. Smokey, sweet, cakey, woody, meaty, savory and very slightly cooling all at the same time. As an after dinner snuff, this is tied for my absolute favorite with the Brasil Doppelt-Fermentiert. There are richer, sweeter Bernard's concoctions, but none more satisfyingly complex. Very long lasting and an appreciable nicotine hit, unlike some Schmalzers which are lacking in this department, although you will get a rather distracting drip because you will invariably take too much of it.

What a delight! Explodes with a sweet mix of raisin or fig fruit, light honey-baked ham smokiness. Quickly followed with just enough menthol to raise the whole to a really refreshing, lingering level. As moist as it is this one does require a good blow soon after taking. In this case that is truly a good thing as the scent renews itself almost completely with the first couple of blows. Perfect for when I want a fast sensory pick me up.

Suposed to be a mix of Schmalzler and Snuff. And exactly that´s what it is. Personaly I don´t like a Schmalzler mentholated, although it´s a really very good and mellow menthol used here. Flavour reminding a bit of the Alpina from Pöschl indeed, but slightly less sweet, which is a very good thing. The balance is good enough to make it an all day treat easily. The dispenser is so retro, I suppose it´s avantgarde at the same time. A bavarian couple dancing the Zwiefacher in front of the alps, the dispenser being a dark green one hasn´t seen since the ´70s (if yet born then). Again, high quality from Bernard, as usual.

Dark brown, medium grind, moist mentholated schmalzer, which is very easy to take in largeish quantities. The restrained menthol complements the cake, dark fruits, coffee, vanilla, rum and raisin and maple flavours well - much better than I thought! Excellent as a low nicotine daytime snuff, but beware, it's moreish and messy. 9/10.

Satisfying snuff. I don't find it too coarse and it is easy to take. It is a sweet mentholated (non-camphor) schmalzler that does not overdue the menthol. Filling as a small desert that does not need to be large to hit the spot. Great blend. It cools and accentuates its delicious flavor. I highly recommend it.

I agree with Leman.... a lovely snuff, but I do wish they would also distribute it in a tin for pinching!

Although I generally prefer my snuff to be fine and dry, schmalzlers are the exception. Zweifacher might be the best Bernard has to offer. The addition of menthol makes it absolutely superb. The flavor is a wonderful mix of menthol, fruit, and whatever makes a schmalzler a schmalzler. For a medicated snuff, it is unusually easy on the nose. I don't get the burn, or freeze, that I get with other menthol snuffs. I just wish they could put it in a different container as I don't really like to snuff from the hand.

I can only guess at the pronunciation on this one, but I'll take another Zweifacher to go! One of the tastiest menthols I've had to date. This one is great for copious gorging whilst relaxing in front of the tube (don't forget the Kleenex). Great snuff with what I find to be the perfect menthol note, not overdone at all with loads of flavor behind it. Dates and rum with dark fermented, syrupy fruit notes beneath. On par with Dholakia's Swiss Chocolate for the perfect no-calorie evening treat; sugarfree and sweet. My top pick from the Schmalzers.

No German speaking I don't think I would like to order this Schmalzler in a walk in shop! Very fruity with a menthol in the background.

My favourite Bernard so far - a nice balance of tobacco and cake crumbs. Very easy on the nose and moreish. Certainly a keeper. I am plainly not an expert, but for the blind leading the blind, I would commend this as a first Schmaltzler.

This stuff reminds me of Alpina but with the fruity depth of a schmalzler and a slight smoky note to it. A complex snuff. Very good.

I can say if I only had 1 snuff on a desert island this would be it. I can use it all day. the menthol is light and the fruit and maple is rich.

A well balanced combination with the menthol not overpowering, and the fruity flavour persists for some time. Highly recommended for snuffers who are not overly fond of menthol and prefer it in small doses.

Awesome awesome awesome. I love this one it is just damn good. Very schmalzery with all the crazy fruity syrupy smells that seem less like a combination of fruits mixed together but some awesome mad scientists hybrid of several fruits and red licorice stick. Also not only is this an incredible snuff in every freaking way but it's got the coolest single box of all snuffdom seriously with the cool dancing people and that odd shade of green. I so highly recomend this as one of my favorite all time snuffs that I really really want to lie and say it is the worlds strongest aphordisiac, but I won't do that I'll lie and say it is the second strongest aphordisiac in the world. Seriously snuff this snuff it's the bomb.

I love this stuff. It is one of may favorite menthols. The "English" and Schmalzler mix perfectly to make a snuff that is better than both.

has been a while since i had this. it basically is a mix of schmalzler and (poeschl-style) snuff tobacco. it is scented with a fruity flavour, that i find relaxing but not overly exciting. the schmalzler gives it a deep, dark note not really encountered in non-schmalzler snuff normally. nice try, satisfying result.

Mild menthol, eucalyptus, maple, vanilla. Schmalzler/Snuff blend. Dark brown, medium fine and moist. Menthol is not overpowering. Very nice.
