I do not find this to be particularly dry as my fellows below do. It comes in a nice little glass bottle like the Civette. I find the bottle to be an excellent dispenser and storage vessel. The German writing on the side translates: "Paris No. 2 masterfully co-ordinated, spicy flavour, fine-grained" It is indeed somewhat spicy, and also has some good wood flavor. I detect some pine/pine resin notes in it. Its smokey, but perhaps less so than some of the others from Bernard. There does seem to be some detectable amount of salt. Overall a nice natural tobacco, and good traditional German snuff. The recipe dates to 1850.

Much more fine and dry than the other schmalzlers I've tried, except its bottle-brother, Civette Extrafein. Tapping some on the back of your hand from the bottle is a bit awkward, so I'd recommend decanting into another container possibly. Very dark brown, and takes a bit more sharp a sniff to get up then most other schmalzlers for me. It's got a nice little burn to it, and an appreciable dose of nicotine. The smell is of a high grade cigar, with some herbal notes alongside it, and a smoky smell in the back. The smoke scent wavers just this side of chemical, but ultimately smells of a nicely burning tobacco.

Very rich, smokey and cigar like flavour. The burn it delivers is quite likely due to its drieness. Grind varies from fine to medium. Provokes a fast secretion. Indeed, like ermtony mentioned, very satisfying (flavour and effect).

This is probably the "smokiest" of the four Bernard snuffs I have in the 14g glass bottles, having a pronounced cigar-like smell and taste. This recipe for this one is from 1850. It is of medium, though varied grind and is relatively dry. The colour is medium brown. Along with the cigar flavour is a touch of spiciness and an earthy, almost farmyard-like taste (not that I have ever actually tasted a farmyard...). Altogether a very satisfying snuff.

Not much substance to this one at all. Has a light smokiness and something salty. This is a coarse dry snuff with bits of twigs.

very finely ground snuff. and it is very very dry. i find it very hard to snuff without having it hit my throat.
the taste iscigar-like, with something spicey in it. it is more of a "hot" snuff and i canno detect any menthol.
interesting, but not for me.
