Rooster is the first American scotch I tried and I was blown away by the nicotine hit, it’s the first time I was really satisfied buy nic from snuff. the flavour took a little getting used to. The smokiness was lovely but the taste of vinegar was a bit unexpected but something I got quite fond of rather quickly. The flavour stays for quite sometime, I don’t really get the BBQ thing it reminds me of cigarette smoke and a bag of chips. Its fine and dry but no dryer than most HDT’s that I have had so if you are new to this type of snuff some care needs to be taken or it will make your eyes water, that said it does not make my nose run or clog. I can sniff this all day and most days I do. I highly recommend Rooster it might not be to everyone’s taste but its well worth trying. If I had to choose one snuff to exclusively use it would be the mighty rooster.

The USST snuffs stand apart from their competitors at Conwood and Swisher in that they all have a characteristic sour-acrid flavor on top of a stong barbecue scent. They are also generally the strongest in both nicotine and in strength of flavor. Like Conwood, they too currently only produce three non-sweet scotches; Bruton, Standard and Rooster. Bruton is just too potent, and is not particularly pleasant to use. Rooster seems the most tame (by USST standards, but strong compared to other companies) of the three. Its quite satisfiying and the nictotine stays with you for a little while longer than Bruton. The flavor is a little bit of a sour note on charred wood. I prefer the flavors of the Swisher/Helme family the most, but this is pretty good.

If I want nicotine- this is my go-to. It tastes like BBQ Corn-nuts. You can put this in your mouth and savor the flavor or save yourself the toothpick and just snort the full hog. It has a chipotle base- with some hints of sweet sauce. Tasty- for sure. A flavor I need every day? No.
I like it, on occasion.

At first, I wasn't enamored with the smokey flavor of Scotch snuffs but I've come to enjoy it. Toasts are my favorites but Scotch snuffs are coming in second now. I still have a few to try before I can give any a five star rating but this is a good one. I've tried it mixed with a vanilla which was a very good mix but I do like it just as it is. Rooster and Standard are my all day snuffs and I have a few sniffs of whatever else suits me on any give day. After mastering Dholakia, Scotches don't give much trouble any more. I recommend this as a must try.

I had a hooter full of Rooster at the time, and the room was spinning!

Wow!
As a former smoker, I really appreciate the nicotine slam that the old Rooster provides. I was a bit put off at first by the fine grind, but have adjusted my technique accordingly, and now essentially hold my breath while taking this marvelous snuff. Straight up, or added to something else (O&G), it is a top quality snuff, and I think it is the flagship of all American snuffs.
As others have noted, there is a significant barbecue note, followed by gool old tobacco flavor and goodness.
Once you are able to tame this feisty old bird, you will enter a new dimension of snuffing.

Jebus! This stuff is so potent, I think I have to rub some on my head. Either I´d grow an afro, or go completely bold. A bit wiser from my recent Maccoboy experience, I approached this snuff with more care. And this is indeed needed! It´s not even the nicotine-strongest american snuff, but compared to it, the european snuffs just pale (as pale as the Rooster is in colour). It is a very strong BBQ flavour, the slightest metalic taste to it, if not aired out a bit. A delicious taste imo. Not too difficult to take, with some caution and experience. Don´t chicken out on the Rooster.

Well, if you are snuffing to get a big nicotine hit, this is definitely the one for you. It has a bit of a barbeque flavor combined with natural tobacco. It is a fine grind, so snuff slowly and gently. I would definitely start with this one in small doses and would not recommend it for beginners. All this said, it is my favorite American style snuff and I keep some here on hand at all times. 4 stars.

This is the snuff from hell!!! You'll note that I didn't give it a star rating. That's because it is either a zero or ten depending on your tastes. This is one that you must try; but, be forewarned, it is not for the novice. The first time I took a pinch of this it nearly blew my head off. The nicotine content of this snuff is off the scale. Recently, the US Food and Drug Administration was give the power to regulate tobacco. It would not surprise me if they classified this snuff as a DRUG :>) This is the only snuff I can't take straight! I have to cut it with something to tame it down. Now don't get me wrong, I do use the Rooster from time to time and I believe that it has a place in everyone's collection; however, there should be a warning label on the tin similar to that found on fireworks- "Use only under strict adult supervision." :>0 Whenever I find myself wanting that nicotine rush I experienced when I first tried tobacco, I always turn to the Rooster. Maybe I'm just a wimp, but that's my opinion. After taking the Rooster, I can see why there is only ONE in the hen house :>)

I thought I was a real man, and then along came the Rooster. This stuff was so highly regarded that I had to try it. I have been snuffing for only a couple of months now so I practically blew my head off when I took a large pinch with way too much pressure. Now that I have been using Rooster for a little while I have learned the proper snuffing technique. It was a little challenging at first because of the fineness and dryness. The flavor is amazing and the nicotine is amazing. I don't use this all day but I really enjoy it.

Rooster though not a favorite of mine has a nice smoky flavor with a clean tobbaco feel. I like to have it now and then as an alternative to regular toast type snuffs. Try it if you have not, but sniff carefully.

Although most U.S. Scotches taste pretty similar to me, I've found that I really enjoy this one. The nic kick is unbelievable, the BBQ scent is not as overpowering as some and it can burn like hell if you're not careful - newbies beware!
I now carry some around with me at all times - it's become my No. 1 U.S. go to snuff.
All hail the Rooster Booster!

Respectable snuff. A tobacco celebration. Toasty and nice subtle smoky flavor. This is a serious snuff, a classic! Take with care. Experienced snuffers travel into tobacco heritage. An amazing transformation of the exotic leaf. I recommend it highly!

This has to be the snuff with the highest level of nicotine of all that I have tried, though the other American scotches come close behind. It's very fine and dry, quite pale in colour and has the classic smokiness one expects. I also get an earthy undertone. Others are smokier but this one seems to get it just right, complementing the excellent tobacco base. A good 4.5 out of 5. Only a touch of harshness keeps it from the top spot.

When I first tried Rooster I was struck by the smokiness. At first sniff this scent can seem artificial but after using Rooster on and off for a week or so, the natural tobacco scent presents itself more prominently. It is a great snuff and I'm glad I stuck with it. Rooster probably has the strongest natural tobacco scent of any snuff I've tried.

I was a little put off of this one by the mixed reviews being new to snuffing and a non smoker. However having received a sample of the Rooster i was pleasantly suprised to find just a nice fairly plain tobacco with a high nicotine content. For anyone wanting to make the switch from cigs this is just what you need. To sum up there isn't really anything not to like about the Rooster in my opinion and it definately has a place in my collection

The Benchmark in American Scotch snuffs and the measure for all the different varieties of strong snuffs to beat, imho. Bone-dry, smoky and chock full of Saint Nic. This is the one that confirmed to me that snuff can be an effective replacement for even heavy smokers. Medium BBQ and a somewhat sharp tobacco flavor with a full head above the next competitor in nicotine satisfaction. Mixed or straight, this has become one of the cornerstones in my snuff collection. A must for soon to be ex-smokers to quell even the most extreme cravings. No surprise that USST manufactures it along with it's cousin Copenhagen. Just like Cope, Rooster satisfies!

Upon opening the obviously Country Western styled plastic tin from rooster an air that I thought could only have been smelt in a hay barn in the south consumed me. I instantly felt as though the new age lounge I was sitting in had become a rustic barn yard atmosphere. With hay and subtle notes of chocolate being the primary aroma. When I sniffed rooster I was reminded of some sort of mill with a high chemical content in the air. salty but equally acidic with just a hint of sweetness. A very dry snuff indeed. It is however.. not bad.. surprisingly and pleasantly lingering. It is a snuff I will not use as often as some I am about to review.. but... all the same it has its place on my snuff shelf.

This is my second favorite American snuff falling just behind Levi Garrett. Has a nice fine grind & the snuff is very light. Holds a great BBQ scent. Enough strength to really satisfy.

Powerful extra fine snuff. Strong long lasting smoke flavoring. Reminds me of imitation smoke flavor. I use as a mixer or add a vanilla bean to tone down the initial artificial smell.

Perfect American Snuff! I have tried a lot of American Snuffs and most of them are very similar yet Rooster stands ahead of the pack. The smoky BBQ scent you get is wonderful and sticks with you for a long time. It is very Dry and Fine so one must be careful but it is worth it. Highly recommended!
