This is really not something for a beginner but it do taste great. The taste is roasted and very hard to describe but it is something special. It is one of the lightest snuff I seen and very dry and fine grinded. It took some training for me to not sneeze every time I use it it, and I been using a lot of snuffs for a long time. Do not buy this as your first snuff but if you like light snuffs it is a must to try it. Reccomended for advansed users :).

Of the few snuffs from Samuel Gawith I've tried so far, they are all batting 100!
The Irish D is no exception. Plain, with no added scents, the light smoke aroma along with that of clean and simple tobacco tell me that I have just been introduced to a Toast. For me this one is comparable to the American Scotches with respect to nicotine content, but without the face-in-the-campfire smell.
I have tried 3 other products that are said to be of the Toast variety, all 3 currently reside in my "Thinking About It" box. All 3 seemed like nothing more than cardboard dust, certainly nothing to crow about. The Irish D Original I will crow about!

Very pale, very dry and finely ground as befits the style. This version is more straightfoward than others out there. The toasting appears to be quite light, so more nutty tobacco flavour is obvious, but there is little caramelisation or biscuit aromas as seen in the Wilsons or F&T examples. Good nonetheless, but best avoided by beginners owing to the very dry, fine nature of the snuff. The sliding dispenser has a tendency to jam-up. 7/10.

There´s nothing like a good toasted, smokey High Dry Toast and this one ain´t only good, it´s excellent. May take some time to master the fine grind, but manageable. Very rich pale tobacco, slightly darker than the Irish D Light. Impressive quality snuff.

This is a lovely tan snuff, milled extremely fine.
It has a nice lingering note of vanilla and other light spices. Not citrusy at all, which agrees with me.
This can be tricky to take but is very pleasant and certainly worth the effort.
An excellent toast. 5 stars.

Smoky, penetrating snuff. Like all toasts this can be a bit ferocious to take - and its certainly not for the beginner - but its a rewarding and flavoursome snuff with lots of character. This should be sniffed lightly and with not too big a pinch otherwisde your head may well explode!
