This is one of the best German tobaccos around in my opinion. It has such a pure, refined and sophisticated scent of really good tobacco, that doesn't need any extra flavor for disguise! I often use this gem late at night, but sometimes I even use it all day as well. It can become a little overly heavy, if taken too often during the day! But I really really like this as much as I dislike the mentholated German tobaccos *lol* The price is good too!
Xander: Gekachelter means something like "flaked" - my guess is that it refers to the condition of the tobacco leaves, when processed?

Another winner from Bernard! The full name is Gekachelter Virginie Dunkel. "Dunkel," I get. It means "dark" and the snuff is very dark. "Virginie:" Latin, tells me this is all Virginia tobacco. Translations of Gekachelter leave me confused. "Tiled?" or "More Tiled?" I'm not sure what that means. Hopefully a German speaker will explain it to me someday.
Anyway, the snuff is moist when fresh, and is one of those you can take several large doses of. Presumably this is why it is sold in large bags with a spoon. It seems to be water based, it will dry out if you are not careful. The flavor is just plain rich tobacco. Its slightly smokey, but not nearly as some of Bernard's others.
This is the most straightforward German snuff I know. No noticeable added flavors or elaborate proceses. Slightly sweet, slightly smokey, and just plain good.

This will suit fine as a milder version of the Feiner Kownoer. I would go as far as to guess that this is one of the tobaccos used in that blend. A good natural tobacco snuff here.

This stuff is wonderful. It reminds me of a wonderful rolling tobacco blend I used to smoke. Almost a pure tobacco scent, with a hint of smoke to it. Incredibly moist if it's fresh, and it's quite easy to take mounds and mounds of the stuff. It also clears my nose out very well.

Wonderfull stuff. Quite black, semi-coarse and -moist, reminding highly of some Schmalzler, though I´m not too sure this would be appropriate. Plain fermented tobacco, very nice velvety feeling when pinched. Smoky and just a hint of sweetness, VERY earthy and rich flavour, still not too heavy. Maybe there is some Latakia in there. Reminding alot of the McCombie and other dark snuffs of Samuel Gawith but thankfully the Gekachelte Virginie is much easier to use and stays where it belongs.

My absolute favourite Schmalzler from Bernards. It's a dryer version of the Schmalzlertype and is a love or hate tobacco. One of the most longlasting flavours I know. Description of the flavour:
A mixture between forest-fire, turf-fire, leather and something animalistic. I would give it 6 Stars if i could!!!

I previously reviewed Bernard’s Feiner Offenbacher Cardinal under this label. It was a mistake. I agree with the review below regarding Gekachelter Virginie’s slight smokiness and leather nuances. I cannot find the creaminess of latakia. Gekachelter Virginie is easy to take and has just a little burn that is pleasant. This is a nice natural tobacco.

This is perhaps the most pleasant snuff I've ever tried. 50gr. of this magical tobacco is packaged in a plastic bag and put in a nice looking cardboard box, included is a small plastic spoon which I unashamedly use to shovel this coarse ground medium moisture goodness into the nasal passages.Lots of smokey, leather like and earthy dark roasted tobacco flavor in this one, nicotine is nice too.

Very smoky, latakia, leathery. Dryish (compared with a Schmalzler), dark and relatively fine (for a German snuff). Lovely stuff!

this is, in my honest and humble opinion, the best offering of the most remarkable bernhard company.
it is a black, dark tobacco. the grind is coarse and the moisture medium to dry, but gritty like a schmalzler. it it extremely fragrant in the box. the box is an old-fashioned paper thing, with a nice antiue-looking print on it. 50g and a spoon.
(its the kind of spoon you get for ice cream in germany).
the scent seems to be all natural, without additives.
the tobacco seems to be smoked and roasted and has a scent of... ...well... cowdung. but in a pleasant way. strong, dark, relaxing and smoky. so it i more like burning comwdung. also it has something of a forest fire.
nicotine is medium, i believe.
it works extremely good as a "pepper and salt" snuff to spice up other snuffs.
and at that price it is a steal.
highly recommended.
