Funny, I just registered and had a couple of pinches of Bruton. Then I checked the most recent reviews and saw the one below at the top of the list.
I'm not so into the american snuffs, but I've been trying to be as of late. Bruton was probably the third snuff I used (about 9 years ago). It is very strong, smokey, and dry. Less bbq than W.E. Garrett in my opinion, but not by much. As stated by others, like other american Scotch snuffs, novices should use Bruton with caution.
Now, I will have some Taxi Red for a little more satisfaction, if this tells you anything.
4 stars in its category/class (american scotches).

Great snuff , it only takes a little bit of this stuff to give a huge nic rush.. it is similar to rooster in my opinion. it is very fine in grind so dont be surprised if this makes you cough ..
the trick i use to take this snuff is breath out first while sucking your stomach in at the same time... then sniff lightly while ur holding ur stomach in... that way your sniff is at its weakest point... takes practice but it works well once you get the hang of it..

There is good reason this has earned the nickname, "Brutal". It is seemingly the finest grind of all the Scotch snuffs. It also is the highest in unprotonated nicotine among US snuffs according to a published medical study I read. Great care must be taken when sniffing this snuff, even for experienced Scotch users. I almost always cough when I take this. I like it well enough, especially the nicotine, but there are many better Scotch snuffs on the market. The flavor is a bit sharp, and it does not have as much character or fullness that other Scotch snuffs do. Its slightly leathery, somewhat smokey, but not nearly as much as the other principal ones from this company, namely Rooster and Standard. The flavor does not linger very long and the nic hit is short lived.
Beware of older tins of this. Believe it or not, it can actually get dryer with age. I had a vintage tin, and was suprised at how much dryer it was than a contemporary one.

Pffff, whoa, no, sorry, this stuff is clearly too strong for my tastes. Brutal indeed, ermtony! Didn´t receive a burning with any scotch before, but this one starts its nastieness with a burning sensation in my trunk. And it has to be taken with the outmost care. It is quite a potent powder, that´s for sure. Can´t detect too much BBQ, but a good grade of smokieness and quite a tobaccoey flavour, but it lacks so much in usability, that I can´t really find much pleasure in it. Too rough. Maybe I´m just not mucho macho enough for this stuff...

This is the strongest snuff I have tried. It packs a helluva punch and maybe even surpasses roooster. Despite other reviews I love this snuff and use it everyday. It packs the punch I need to get going, and calms me down at night. 6 stars!

Holy Moses. This one is wicked BBQ tasting. It packs a punch but the lingering flavor of BBQ is just too much for me.

I love this snuff. Its plain, simple and powerful. Its certainly not for the beginner but if you are very used to stronger snuffs like Irish toast or plain SP you should be able to deal with this.
As said by the other reviewers this is very plain. I find a slight smoky taste at the back of it but mostly plain toasted tobacco. I love this simply because it is a really effective nicotine hit. A good stop smoking aid I would say.

"Brutal" is probably right for this one! It really isn't for the faint of heart. Much as I enjoy American scotches, I find Bruton to be not of the best. The expected fineness and dryness is there, as is the smoky and leathery flavour, but I find it to be just a little too harsh for regular use. If I could get no other plain scotches then I would be getting it again but with other, much better ones available I probably will pass on this one in future.

Hard to add anything new to the accurate reviews here, particularly the "100 year old catcher's mitt". This one comes off as straight dust with an undeniable leather aftertaste. As challenging to snuff as any Scotch and perhaps more so, without due care, Bruton can quickly turn plain brutal (perhaps a more fitting name). While the challenge of the most powerful Scotches is there, the reward is unfortunately lacking, imho. Rather plain and nearly dangerous if not respected, Rooster's and almost any of the other premium Scotch's reward is much greater. Somewhat of a disappointment for me, but would certainly do in a pinch, no pun intended. Two and a half lackluster snorts for Bruton.

Like a not so smoky version of Rooster. The scotches are really starting to grow on me. I think I'll do a mix with a Scotch a Dholakia sparrow a High Dry toast and Toque natural. That should cover a few bases at once.

Picture leaving a catchers mitt in the sweltering Nashville heat for about 100 years and having it turn to powder. This is what this snuff is to me. Someone gave me a can that they have had around for many years and I have had it for many years and will probably have it for many long years to come ( knock on mahogany wood)
When I lived in Nashvegas I scouted this place out, I had all but forgotten until now.
The US Tobacco museum was a must see as well.

Bruton of Nashville Tennessee Scotch Snuff is a hard-hitting traditional American Snuff. It definitely does not pull any punches. Fine ground and very dry. It is a medium brown color with all the fixings of Ole Authentic Southern Tobacco. This snuff is more for the experienced Snuffer, but it does set the mark for new comers when comparing snuffs. For the un-experience do not be surprised if a tear comes to one of your eyes from the first sniff, it's just that strong no joke. There may be a bit of sneezing going along with that as well. This is the workmen's snuff, most likely used in the past when men could not smoke while working in certain industries, but could use snuff.
It has a strong Tobacco taste accompanied by a distinct strong cured (smoky) flavor. Recommended for the experienced Snuffer. But for the few adventures new comers you are definitely in for a surprise. Good Luck!
