Reviews for McChrystals Stammheimer Hopfen Schnupf

I purchased this thinking it would be a novelty to try. Instead, I found a great SP with a slight dash of hops on first pinch. This SP is sweeter than WoS Tom Buck or Queens. The citrus is more pronounced. I agree with the comment about similarities to white beers. A Hefeweizen with a full body and a slice of lemon. This may be the only McChrystals I am really intrigued with. What a surprise!

Dry and brown, tends to hit the throat easily if done wrong. Smells of light citrus and cloves, I'm assuming hops, although I've never had anything of it except the end product, so I can't say for sure. Something of a bitter note to it, just as I like my beer. Very enjoyable, and this actually smells how I wished the McChrystal's Clove smelled.

This snuff went rapidly from "meh" to "Mmmmm" to "Must have" for me. My first instinct was that it was a too-dry and over-dusty version of McChrystal's SP, but as I accustomed myself to the grind, I began to appreciate the subtlety of the blend. Stammheimer is effectively an SP, with a citrussy freshness which underpins the blend and holds the other flavours together. The hops are not overpowering, but they bring a definite hint of beer to the mixture, even (and this may sound odd) the delicious refreshing fizz of a cold lager. The beer in question would be something like a Hoegaarden, or other white beer, with a couple of slices of lemon. Someone else mentioned a skunky aroma - I'm not sure if we're talking about the same thing, but there's a definite touch of the "special" scent of Amsterdam in there as well (I believe that hops are related to that other controversial herb). This stuff may have a German label, but it's so Dutch, they should call it Cees. It's replaced all the other McChrystal snuffs in my usual rotation, and is strongly recommended to anyone who enjoys a fine, powdery and refreshing take on an SP type snuff. An all-day, all year round classic.

This one has a medium - high nicotine level and was a nice surprise for me. It has that light hoppy scent and a tinge of skunk if I'm not mistaken. I must have liked it because it is disappearing pretty quickly and I reach for it when I need to satisfy a nicotine craving but it does have a tendency to go straight into my throat due to it being such a fine grind but you should definitely give it a try! 4.2 ale induced stars.

This was one of my first snuffs I tried after finding the brands besides Poschl. I was intrigued by a hops or beer flavored snuff, but sadly it doesn't taste very hoppy to me. It is more of a strong SP in my opinion. I'm not saying it is a bad snuff, it's just different than I expected. It does go extremely well with a wheat ale.

Stammheimer Hopfen Schnupf is a most welcome experience in snuff taking. This snuff is a keeper for me. I like fine and "full of character" ales (particularly, sharp IPAs) and although I don't find their decisive resemblance to this snuff, I like this snuff as well. This snuff is easy to take and it "hits the spot." I believe that I will stop using popular SPs and instead stick to this snuff. It is a memorable snuff. I believe that we owe to ourselves trying it. I highly recommend it.

Outstanding! Firstly, it wins best in class, since there is no other snuff to my knowlege with this kind of flavor. If you are a lover of fine beers and ales, this one is for you. One of my favorite beers is Victory Hop Devil, which has quite a following in America. So, perhaps I am biased in that I love the taste and smell of hops so much! You will find yourself taking pinch after pinch of this. If I could only have one snuff to sniff for the rest of my life, this one would be in the running for it. Its a soft grind and easy to take, but the flavor is very strong. The moisture is semi dry and the nicotine content is low. Get this one for the unique flavor. You'll be glad you did. The hops come from the Stammheimer farm in Switzerland and was commissioned by them from McChrystal's. Now available worldwide.

Mid brown, medium grind, dry to medium moist, and strongly flavoured with hop oil. If you like a good hoppy beer, you'll love this snuff (but it might not appeal to everyone) and it complements an evening pint. Hops are apparently great for making you sleepy, and you can feel the relaxing effects after a few pinches. The hop aroma is citrusy and slightly soapy and is indistinguishable from the oily aromas I experience at the brewery I work at. 9/10.

Just the pick-me-up for a jaded nose. Hoppy and bright. Citrussy and scented (soapy). Prefer this to their O&G any day, though it is quite different.

A really splendid snuff, and different from most, except for a passing resemblance to Bernard's Altbayerischer schmalzler. The hop flavour is unmistakable and the snuff comes in an attractive slide opening dispenser. One I don't want to be without.

Damn that's some good snuff! Looks like I'll be making another order here soon, this one's going quick. The hop's have been done to a point of fruitiness. If I'm not mistaken these are some of the fruitier varieties to begin with; maybe Saaz or one the other 'Noble' varieties.....more aromatic and fruity than bitter. I'm running out of time in the day to fit all my picks into rotation. Well done, I give this one 4 enthusiastic snorts but am admittedly a hophead from way back. If only it had a bit more nicotine...

The Snuff I have been looking for! I agree with the similarity to a good IPA...but almost more like a good wheat beer with a orange wedge. When i first opened the canister it smelled too much like high school biology class (dissecting frogs), but once it the nose...heaven. I love the nicotine level in all McCrystals, and this one is no diffrent. A perfect "bar snuff". Will try it out this weekend at Octoberfest!

This fine snuff is dead on with the aroma...It really smells like a heavily hopped IPA. In fact its so close, taking a sniff of this whilst imbibing a hopped ale feels almost superfluous, sort of like drinking milk while eating ice cream. But I like the easy sniff with McC's customary menthol, which I might add is always the most balenced mentholated blends, although I did find the nicotine level to be pretty darn weak. Its a moist, medium brown dust that smells like beer... and they say Im crazy!!!! I'll give it a rosey 3 stars*** and have no regrets on the matter.

These are just first impressions and I don't think I would find it too strong for an all day snuff. I find the hops aroma a bit elusive, a bit more like scented soap flakes! This sounds bad but I find it quite pleasant and grows on me. Too early for an in depth analysis, but promising.

Pretty enjoyable snuff when used in moderation. This would be considered a pretty strong floral snuff. The hop scent itself is kind of similar in scent to a mix of sage, thyme, ivy, thistle & lavender. When used more than a few times a day, it tends to irritate the back of nose/throat. The scent is enjoyable but a little to strong of scent for an all day snuff. But if just pinched a few times a day, it is a great snuff.

A bit too dry for my taste, but, the scent of the hops makes its use more than worth it. Has me longing for the same in liquid form when sat in the office. Well worth giving a go!

A very nice taste of hops with this one. Just why is it not generally available in the UK?

Fantastic flavor. A must try. Very tasty. One of the most edible snuffs that I have tried. Makes a good aperitif. I'm exited to discover blend combinations that would harmonize this most distinctive note.

This one seems to share the same base tobacs as O&G,only a little drier,Nice bitter flavor,Relatively low on nicotine but the bold flavor of the hops makes up for it.I can and sometimes do use this all day, never gets dull.Highly recommended!
