Reviews for Bernard Brasil Fresco

Bernard's website says this is for the "real" schmalzler lovers! Well, I like the other 2 Brasils a bit better, but this is indeed very good. Fresco also Rassig is "fresher" or more aromatic, and "racy". The sweet flavors are more played down in this one than they are in the Fienst. This one has a stronger tobacco and smokey character. This is somewhat finer grind and moister than the Fresco also, but its schmalzler, so its still quite course and a bit gritty. Its softer than the Fresco though. I think I can see why they say its for the "real" fans, becuase with this you will really learn what schmalzler is about, without the burden of added flavoring. The drip and the blow can be a bit bitter and sour, so if you are used to sweet schmalzlers this one is going to be different. I do not reccomend it for your first schmalzler, but it definately should be explored once you are comfortble with one or both of the other Brasils. I feel a bit more nicotine in this one too.

The plainest of the various Bernard Schmalzler. Slight chocolate and maple, maybe malt note, but quite light. I´d say besides the fermented tobacco this one doesn´t see too much additional flavouring. I favour the Pöschl Schmalzler A Brasil over this. Somehow it´s not very pleasant on the nose. And the occasional drip is the worst ever.

The basis is again the "Brasil Doppelfermentiert" but the chokolate-note is dominating. Too sweet for daily use but nice once in a while.

This is not a lighter version of Brasil Feinst or Doppelt-Fermentiert. It has a character of its own. I find it more acute than abovementioned two. Its flavor, definitely a schmalzler, is crisp and vivid. I do not compare it to molasses, but more to a distilled spirit. It gives a light tobacco burn feeling. I believe that this schmalzler is enjoyed better during the summer.

A Very Dark Schmalzler, tasty. But not one of my favourite of the Bernards

Not bad at all. Deep dark fermented fruit with a touch of sour to it. I think I prefer the Double Fermented over this as it has a sweet note to it and this has a sour one.

Very coarse, dry and gritty, almost black in color. This has a long lasting flavor in the nose,I've been pinching this one all day and it has stained my fingers.I get hints of chocolate and maple,a lovely treat that comes in a 20 gr. cube wrapped in foil.Medium nicotine content.Highly recommended!

A dark, coarse, moist Schmalzler with flavours of maple and spices. Quite mild. Dark and moist but a bit gritty.
