Reviews for Bernard Feiner Offenbacher Cardinal

This has been described as the lighter of the Offenbacher snuffs. Köstlich is certainly more pronounced in flavor but the flavors are similar. The flavor being one of woody, smokey natual tobacco. I suppose the term "Feiner" refers to the light airy nature of this snuff. The grind is a bit courser and certainly dryer than the Köstlich, meaining that the snuff does not clump together much. It remains quite fluffy, so you can shovel it into your nose quite liberally. I suppose that is why it is sold in units 5 times the size. This is one of the few snuffs I prefer to take by spoon rather than pinching or snuffing off the hand. I understand it comes with a spoon, but my sample was from a trade, so I cannot see its size. I have found that my largest snuff spoon, which has a bowl of 1.2cm diameter works best. This snuff can cause slight irritation if overindulged, but not bad. I do get fairly runny in the front, though. Quite a good example of a classic traditional German snuff. If I had to only pick one, I'd go with the Köstlich, but the Cardinal is quite nice to have from time to time. Very satisfying.

Good stuff! Nice smoky plum like scent very complex and enjoyable, Kostlich light is right. I think pinching instead of pouring to the hand also makes a difference. A good balance of sweet, smokey, light latakia, dried apricot and prune. Moist and easy to take.

Very smoky, reminds of Copenhagen Snuff. Not as smoky as the Alt-Offenbacher Köstlich, but that's a good thing for me. Easy to take large pinches, but it's drier than other schmalzlers. Also, the spoon that comes with it is really only good for transferring to a snuff box or mixing, as it's about an inch across at the narrow side.

As stated before, this could really be called a "lighter" version of the Alt Offenbacher Köstlich, being slightly softer and drier, maybe it only isn´t fermented as long. But for sure it´s flavour is richer than most other snuffs, only not as heavy and deep as the AOK. Nonetheless the flavour is quite delightfull and the big measurement this comes in (50g and very reasonably priced) suggests to take it in large portions and indeed taking it all day works fine. Not too heavy in nicotine and it won´t go too far up the nose. Another nice example of what can be done plainly with tobacco itself.

This is the light version of the Alt Offenbacher Köstlich to me. Smoky tones, slightly incense and a nice tobaccoflavour of the virginia. Like the others I think it's a little bit to dry and that's the reason why it burns quiet well.

This excellent snuff has a natural aged Virginia tobacco flavor. It is a celebration of tobacco goodness. I can taste the smokiness from the curing process. It has the natural subtle sweetness of Virginia. Clean. Easy to take. A little clogging if overindulged. Slight burn. Very satisfying. Natural tobacco aficionados must try this one. Excellent introduction to snuff for non-aromatic pipe smokers. I like this one more than Bernard’s Gekachelter Virginie. I highly recommend it!

Natural tobacco, sweet liquor. Coarse with medium moisture with a real depth of flavour. The colour is mid-brown. Like betonente, I tend to moisten it a little more. A good all day snuff and highly recommended.

very very coarse and dry. the third snuff to be sold in 50g boxes (/w spoon) only. the scent is of maple, marshmallow and slightly liquorish. but everything is perfectly balanced with the tobacco and it is not overly sweet. nicotine is low, so you can take BIG pinches. the most comforting, soothing snuff i ever had. i like to moisten it a bit. a classic.
