Reviews for Poschl Gletscher Prise

Mmm.... Not a whole lot to add to the rest of the reviews here, except for being one more in support of this tasty, tasty snuff. Excellent menthol flavor that lasts a bit longer than other Poschls and there is a pretty good flavor after the menthol has worn off. My primary use of this snuff is on the go due to the tap box container and the pleasures of walking about with menthol in my nose. It is also a perfect menthol snuff for mixing. I mix it with Dholakia Swiss Chocolate quite often and sometimes with my fruity snuffs as well.

Let me preface my remarks by saying that I like menthol--alot! The menthol of this brand is moderate, but lasts much longer than other menthols I've tried. The "Columbia oil" seems to me to have an "earthy" aroma. As said before by others, this is a good snuff for beginners, and I like the box it comes in, as it's a snuff box in and of itself. If you like strong menthol, Poschl makes Red Bull which, along with Hedges L260, is my favorite snuff. So, if you like a bit of menthol that lasts a long time with the earthy smell of the tobacco, you might like this snuff. If you like strong menthol, you're much more likely to prefer Poschl's Red Bull that also comes in it's own snuff box.

This the the flagship product of the world's biggest snuff producer, so its bound to get good revews simply becuase its so well known and has been distributed so aggressively. I for one am not in love with it. The menthol while moderate for Pöschl is still much more than I care for. The Columbia Oil is a name I think they made up. It certainly has no definition anywhere that I can find. Likely it is a mixture of some various herbal elements that provide a bit of flavor. It has a reasonable nose cleariing effect, but of course the typical waxy moisture base of Pöschl will make it stick in my throat. One to finish and forget about.

Chocolate brown, slightly waxy and moist and of medium grind. This was the first snuff I ever tried, and it didn't convert me. Three years later I discovered the vast array of English nasal snuffs and I forgot about this one. Out of curiousity I bought a fresh sample recently and it made me realise why this snuff didn't convert me - it isn't that good. It is easy to take, and initially the peppermint and menthol is quite nice, but underneath there is an unpleasant, unidentifiable off flavour mixed with the tobacco, that eventually leads to the customary bitter drip (and blocked nose). Lowenprise seems to have the same tobacco base, but with liquorice. I really can't see myself finishing this snuff anytime soon, but it may be preserved by the waxy coating it has for decades to come. 3/10.

I have used a dozen or more menthol snuffs and thought I knew what to expect, but this stuff is strange. Yes it does have nice menthol, but it has a weird undertone to the scent in your nose. I assume it is the Columbia Oil (whatever that is). I usually only buy British snuffs, but bought this to support a retailer who started to carry snuff and this was his second offering. Support or no, I don't think I will be buying more of this.

Nice menthol-pine scent, a little on the sweet side. This snuff is similar to most of the other Poschls I have tried. I like Poschl snuffs but won't use them more than once or twice a day. This will do just fine. I hope the tobacco sours like some of my other "older" Poschls have. That would make this even better.

I've no idea what Columbia oil is, but it's listed on the box as the flavouring for this snuff. It may be what provides the artificial flavour, or maybe it provides the bitter aftertaste, it certainly seems to hide any of the basenotes of tobacco that are the hallmarks of other Poschl snuffs. When you combine this with too much menthol and a nondescript minty aroma, Gletscherprise emerges as probably the worst of the Poschl range, and one of my least favourite menthol snuffs. The unpleasant flavours linger in the nose for longer than I'd like, and I find that it quickly closes the sinuses and blocks the nose. Gletscherprise tastes artificial and chemical, and seems to have low nicotine. It's a snuff with little to recommend it.

This was the first true snuff I tried, and its not too bad! Its a typical Poschl grind and moisture levels, which means its a good beginner type. None of the weird fake, sweets that all the Poschl's I've tried have, just mentholated tobacco. Its great in the mornings when I'm groggy, as one doesn't have to be really careful with it and the menthol gets things moving, but I don't use it all day. The local availability will assure it has a place in my collection.

Gletcherprise is a very popular snuff world-wide but it has never been one of my favorites. Perhaps it is the combination of the Columbia Oil and menthol but its' aroma and taste have never really appealed to me. It does come in a nice handy box with a round hole, cover flap, and tab to hold the flap back while you dispense the snuff. I once saw a video on You-tube of a German gentlemen snuffing a huge quantity of this snuff, it was an amazing amount. 2 stars for Gletcherprise.

This one's not bad, but isn't something I would use as an all day Snuff. The Menthol hit is nice and not too overwhelming. As an occasional toot in-between florals or something to perk up with after some plain Snuff it's alright, but it's not very exciting.

A true classic. Still, I´ve tried a 100 other snuffs before it, even as my father´s using it for a long time and in big quantities. Finally tried it and although I´m not too enthusiastic about menthol, this really is a very solid snuff. Great clearing effect (presumably better in a colder season), without being too heavily mentholated. The flavour is very unique, maybe it´s the supposed columbia oil in it. Clearly better than the Gletscherprise Extra. Available in 10g and 15g (ideal for refilling) dispensers and 25g refill bags.

One of the first in my armoury, I fell immediately fell in love with it. The menthol was not too overpowering, giving a lingering, cool and clean carriage. My present caston is a touch too moist, and I would prefer the 'slide opening hole' but , to me, this is one for the that wake-up call and the throughout the day. To my mind this is one for buying in bulk. One thing though, reviewers have been mentioning the existence of 'columbia oil' in this product. Anonymous reviwed on 07-31-2008 and challenged it's existence. Well, I'm throwing down the gauntlet and following suit, as I can't find it anywhere. Someone going to pick it up?

This is my "go to" snuff. I always carry a tin with me. Everything is perfect about this product. The grind, moisture and nicotine are great for both novice and expert alike. Another thing that makes this my favorite is the package. No tin to open and/or spill- the flip top is an excellent delivery method. Poschl has found the perfect combination of menthol and Columbia Oil that excites the nostrils while relaxes the user. I often add a pinch to my pipe tobacco for an extra zing. This one is a "must have" in any collection.

The Only down side, for me, with this snuff is the nicotine hit. However, thats fine for me as too much nicotine gets my anxiety acting up. If I had to describe the sensation it would be like putting an air conditioning unit in your nostril then putting it on super cold full blast. Very invigorating and a pleasure to snuff, although they tought this as a beginners snuff its actually a snuff all snuffers can enjoy. Im a menthol junkie and this is the only snuff ive had that I just cant get enough. Sure, it has a clogging effect but just blow your nose and re-up. I already have problems with airflow in my nostril but this opens me up and I can actually breathe out of both nostrils quite well. I highly recommend this snuff, 5 stars all the way

This is the first tin of snuff i have bought. before i got this i had only tried a few other flavors, like apricot and raspberry. i was not impressed with those at all! I love the cold feeling i get from the menthol. and the smell of the menthol is great. i have been using this snuff for about a week straight, i use it very often and i i havent gotten sick of it at all. the only down side is every once in awhile the snuff is difficult to get out of the tin, probably because it's so moist. to be honest though, i really like the tin its better than most (at least from what I've seen). i would definatly reccomend this.

The German classic snuff. This is the snuff everybody starts and once in a while it's very nice. Especially the Columbia-Oil taste is unique.

My tobacco shop finally got some of this in after only carrying Gawith Apricot, President, and Club Snuff forever. I was shocked to see it on the shelf, but very glad. Nice menthol flavor and the Columbia Oil is different than anything I've yet tried. The only thing is that I've found it to be a bit clogging compared to the other Poschl products. All in all though I love it and will keep plenty in my collection.

I bought this in the Brussels airport on a whim. I never tried snuff before and after using it on my trip I put the remaining nine little boxes on the shelf for six months. I now write this review after having tried a dozen different snuffs. I like the slightly course grind and the moisture content it doesn’t blow away off the back of my hand or make a mess on my clothing when I drop a little. Menthol which I enjoy flavor wise. This would be my favorite snuff currently but I have also used this the most.

Probably my favorite straight menthol type snuff i can take this one all day and usually carry it on me along with 3 or 4 non menthol snuffs, it is strong yet mild i don't really know how to explain it but it is unique and i like it.

Gletscherprise ain't one of my favorites. I like other Poschl brands instead. It's a little dry for my taste and the smell doesn't last very long but is refreshing. It's good if you like to mix different snuffs. Easy to take, so good for beginners.

My first snuff was Brutons - tough experience for a beginner. Had I not tried Gletscherprise a few days later I may have given up snuff completely. As other have said, it is a great beginners snuff, though after sometime with it I began to get clogged up, and I moved onto other snuffs. Gletscherprise will always have a place in my snuff cabinet as the first European snuff I tried. Forget Vicks Vap-o-rub, use Gletscherprise.

I went to lunh a fortnight ago with a cigar smoking friend of mine. I took along some 20 differnt boxes of snuff. He knows snuff and normally have some O&G with him. When he smelled the Gletscher Prise, he immediately said: "This is the snuff for me". When I smelld it the first time, I was hooked. This is a nice, cool snuff, fairly moist, easy taking with an aroma that lingers long enough. It's one of those snuff which, once I've strarted on it, I will keep going with for hours. Nice menthol hit but with some sweetness I cannot identify. Maybe a pinch of anniseed in there? I have some "spares" in the freezer. Especially beginners don't dare pass this by.

This was my first snuff. I liked it and I still do. It made me want to try other snuffs. I still prefer the cleanliness of its menthol delivery to other flavored menthol Pöschl variants. Nonetheless, I rather prefer McChrystal's and Wilson's menthols for their background tobacco taste. I recommend Gletscher Prise. If you like this one, also try Pöschl's Packard's Club.

My local tobacco store had like 2 options for snuff in the 70's, this was one of them and I have shared it with many many people with great response. This one gives you an arctic kick in the ass the moment you inhale it and seems to last quite a while. I had one can of this for years and it still had a fresh flavor each time i pulled it out of my drawer. Great one for the new user and great for clearing the old sinus passages. Who needs Vicks with this on the market. I've even dipped this one with decent results !! in fact, I'm going to try it again as I retire and say farewell until tomorrow. 8.4 nostrils

They call this stuff "English Snuff" in Germany for some reason. I used to get it sometimes when I lived there because it was in every gas station. The scent is sort of addictive even though it is too strong on the menthol for me. I find it impossible to describe the Columbia Oil flavor but I do like it.

I love this. I am a beginner and I would recommend it to anyone starting with snuff. I really would miss this if I didn't have it and will travel everywhere with some Gletscherprise. The little blue box with the mountains on it more or less tells you what you are going to get; lots of menthol.

What is columbia oil. I did a web search and all I could find is that columbia oil is a company, who knew a company could have such a plesant unquie and perplexing scent. A very excelent snuff. Not one I really use a lot of but as it's the only one that is anything like it's self when I get the gletcherprise itch it's the only one that can fix me up. It is by far the most candy menthol snuff I've tried very sweet yet somehow not sickening.

Its a medium course medium moist snuff. The first time I tried it I didn't know if I liked it or not but I kept going back to it. Now I really like this snuff. The flavor that I get out of this snuff is a pine forest after a rain with a light hint of rosemary. It definitely has a flavor all its own, unlike any other

Another beginners snuff. Very nice menthol-columbia oil mixture. In my opinion thesnuff is a bit overscented with the oil.Never the less the oil later gives out a very pleasant tobacco taste. Also an everyday snuff.

the "classic" in germany. you can find it everywhere. it is a bit coarser than medium grind and not very moist. the colour is medium brown. the taste is dominated by menthol and another menthol-like but slightly herbal scent, but the tobacco-scent is still noticeable. it is very refreshing and simple in a good way. it is as potatoes. nothing you would want to et exclusively every day, but you will definetily miss it if you were out of it. its reputation in germany is not very good, but i think it is a solid and honest snuff.
