I finally got a 50g bag of this one, and I am very glad I did. I can now compare it to the other excellent schmalzlers from Sternecker. This one is "Echt" meaning "Genuine." I'm not sure what that really means, though. Is the Fresko not genuine? Anyway, this one is the has the most flavor of the three, with strong hints of fruit. Its the closest of the three to a Bernard's, but no where near the sweetness levels of some of the Pöschl schmalzlers. For me, this is very sneezy and get my nose running quite a bit, but its loaded with flavor. I'd reccomend any of the three Sternecker schmalzlers, but if you only pick one, make it this one.

A Real tobacco snuff! The Echt Fresko has an additional slight sweetness, compared to the plain walnut, tannin, tobacco goodness of the Straubinger. Easy to snuff nice and soft on the nose. What a great nose feel as it sits lasting quite some time with it's mild aroma. Very clean and not cloying at all. Must try at least one of the Sterneckers or you won't know what you are missing. Not the same as Bernards or Poschl by far.

Hard to believe how tasty this offering is! Comes in 50g bags from the one man manufactury of Alfred (formerly Ludwig) Sternecker from Straubing, Germany. And what an excellent work he´s done! Dark brown, moist, tremendously well fermented tobacco. Got a bit of a smokiness to it, but only to a small degree. The flavouring is very delicate, very present but not as smashing as with the Pöschl Schmalzler. Seems the small scale manufacturing allows for even more exquisite results. And the Pöschl ones are allready very well done.
The most recogniseable part is figs and plum should be a sure bet, too. But all very gentle and not too sweet. Very long lasting scent.

Excellent snuff! Rich, dark and moist, medium-coarse grind and with a lovely carob flavour.
