Reviews for Poschl Gawith Apricot

Okay okay, it's not that good. It does have some up sides however. The apricot flavor is quite nice once you get over the blast of menthol. I personally don't mind the menthol punch of Poschls most of the time but they are not really the snuffs I can take all day. It makes an OK mixer sometimes, but the apricot does tend to be strange with some of the snuffs that I want to mentholate.

Can't give this one more than one star. Too much menthol. I've taken to mixing it 1:4 with Levi Garrett. I think I can use it up that way. Even diluted, the menthol is still pretty strong. Won't buy any more of this. Very nice box though.

This was my first snuff ever, only because its readily available everywhere. Heavily mentholated out of the tap out box and I got no apricot scent at all. I recently decanted this into a jar. After 2 weeks or so, I went back to it and its so much better now. The menthol has subsided and I get a pleasant apricot taste. Very easy to take.

Gentle apricot scent with a little menthol. Very easy to take, with a gentle nicotine hit. Pleasant.

This was my first snuff after the poor SG snuffs, chosen after seeing good reviews across the net, and im glad i tried it! The workd of snuff is a great one indeed, which i nearly could've left after bad experiences, but gawith apricot brought it back! A lovely scented snuff, a bit of a menthol sting but nothing major or irritating! Didnt sneeze once from it, nice finely milled powder so easy to take. Poschl's up there with me!

The 1st review for me and its about the "Gawith Apricot" from Pöschel. I think the reason why this snuff is popular among many is simple, its a good snuff. Anyway, the voices who claim the abscence of apricot flavour in it have my agreement. Its way to thin to call it a "apricot snuff". The menthol is dense and works out well for my nose. Here in Germany, you can buy this one in every single tobacco-shop or fuel-station, so its omni-present. Its a good one. Nothing special for me. 3/5 stars

It baffles me that this snuff gets so many good reviews. I think its omnipresence in the world has more to do with its continued popularity than its quality does. The menthol is way too much. The apricot flavor is practially non existant. It has a subtle fruityness to it, but its hard to distinguish it as apricot. The paraffin content, which gives it its moisture is also unpleasant. That combined with the menthol gives me a nasty throat drip that leaves me hacking for many minutes after snuffing it. Most Pöschl snuffs do this to me, but this one is the worst. Why is the Gawith name attached? This and Gawith Cola are presumably recipes belonging to Gawith Hoggarth of Kendal which is forbidden by British law from making oil based snuffs. Apparantly they have partnered with Pöschl for manufacture and distribution. I'll struggle through the tin I have, but I won't get this again. I fear too many people have been introduced to snuff and immediatly turned off of it because of this one. Its a shame. No stars.

Coarse grind and moist with a menthol fruity flavor. I love the flavor I hate the grind however. Great beginner snuff and great container for dispensing

There is a very slight hint of Apricot in here, but its artificial. This is another snuff that Poschl could improve simply by not adding buckets of menthol to, as the apricot is not bad. If you give it a try, you will find a medium grind, medium moisture, medium brown snuff that is typical of Poschl, with a hint of apricot and a blast of menthol. I find it one dimensional and am not a fan, but this one appeals to many people, so if you like menthol give it a whirl.

This is one of the best fruit-flavored menthol snuffs on the market. It's gentle enough for a beginner, but very satisfying for the experienced snuffer, too. The apricot flavor is quite a bit different from something like Sam Gawith's apricot. It is quite a pleasing flavor, however, and the menthol flavor is easy on the nose and quite satisfying. It I can find a fault with this snuff it's in its' nicotine content, which is quite low. It's a permanent addition to my humidor. This would also be an outstanding snuff to introduce a beginner to snuffing. 4 stars.

This is one of the few Poschl's I don't like. The reason is, I just don't like Apricot. On top of that, the Apricot flavor is difficult to find (at least for me) in this one. IMO, QWS Apricot is much better than this one. At least with the QWS product, it is very easy to detect the Apricot flavor. Both products are easy to take, with the Poschl being abit more moist. Give them both a try and see if you agree with me.

My very first snuff [a free sample given by my pipe tobacco supplier]. I love apricot, yet feel that the this so called apricot is too artificial and the menthol too strong. Having said that, the clean feeling in the sinus is enjoyable and a good introduction to snuffs. I enjoy the clean feeling in the sinuses in the first few minutes, particularly when taken first thing in the morning. The 'little black box' will be a regular in my collection and I think an ideal introduction to first time snuffers and a good addition to the armoury of the seasoned snuffer. Enjoy as a starter.

My first snuff. Can´t add anything that hasn´t been mentioned, except that there´s a VERY high chance you will have allways want it to be in your snuff collection and return to it quite often. One of the best Pöschl´s for sure. Even your wife may like this!

Like the "Gletscherprise" one of the beginner-tobaccos you can find nearly everywhere. A very nice flavour but after a few pinches it closes my nose. The apricot-taste is very nice and the menthol is not to overwhelming.

I absolutely love this snuff, the flavour is superb and just takes me back through the years to my first few pinches of snuff. This was about the third snuff I tried and although Im not the biggest fan of Poschl, German snuff or menthols, this is right up there with the best as far as I am concerned. I just think that this is one occasion when the blender got the perfect balance, the apricot is just delicous and there has never been a time when I dont have a can of this in the collection. The standard dose of menthol is there as well but not overdone and in actual fact compliments the fruit flavour. One of the best.

Definitely one of my favorites and constantly in my collection. Nice apricot aroma not too heavy on the menthol, but just enough for my taste. Nice level of nicotine, but could be a bit higher.

Moist, medium grind, no burn and easy to snuff. Apricot and menthol, but the apricot is sweet, very sickly and synthetic and hangs around for longer than the menthol. Reasonable nicotine. Apricot is not my favourite fruit flavour anyway, and I just can't get on with this snuff.

this is my favorite snuff! It was my first snuff that i took and now it's my all day snuff. The box it's very nice, mostly black... I enjoyed especially if i take it when i'm outside in clean air and the weather is not hot. The aroma is nice but if you use it when drinking coffee you won't feel much.

I know this snuff has been pretty well covered but I might as well add my two penn'orth... This is often described as a beginner's snuff and I would have no argument with that as it doesn't present the sort of challenges to the snuff taker that most other styles of snuff do. It was my dad's first snuff at the age of 82 and he likes it. I still find it enjoyable too. The menthol isn't over-done (and I'm no big menthol fan - menthol snuffs rarely get more than three stars from me) and the apricot flavour is at about the right level so the sweetness isn't cloying. Very refreshing for occasional use. The container is pretty neat too, and it's reusable - always a bonus.

It has just a hint of apricot with a rather overpowering menthol. Honestly the fruitiness is almost totally lost in the menthol, totally. It's definitely not bad, but if I wanted Poschl with that much menthol, I would have gone for President.

I tried this one after Gletscherprise. Its apricot flavor does not behave too well with me. The flavor experience for me is similar to aromatic pipe tobacco (we do not have a chemistry for each other). I smoke only non aromatics. Nonetheless, I enjoy flavored snuff. This one falls short. I took it a few more times for its menthol, then I gave it to a friend. He likes it a lot. I prefer Pöschl Gletscherprise.

"love at first sniff" said an earlier reviewer. I agree. The box. The box is smart, in matt black, white and gold. It dispenses the medium course, medium moist contents on to the back of my hand perfectly. The Snuff. I don't particularly like real apricots, which is ok because what you get with Gawith Apricot is a complexity of flavours that amount to much more. It's a mixture of something like apricot, a little menthol and a rich, lingering flavour that belies the modest price. No doubt this will be added to my list of regulars..

I made a terrible mistake several years ago and let my snuff hobby go by the wayside. I did however have one can of good snuff : Gawith Apricot. I like a little less menthol/eucalyptus and more fruit tastes, but who am I to say ? This snuff seems to last a while for me...I mean a long while, all year and then some ! I am very eager to try the Cola flavor ..I was heart sick when i found out that the box of Cola snuff at the tobacco shoppe was EMPTY ! I almost hate to say it but I think I like McChrystals better.... but both are world class. Cheers.

four and half stars really. One of the best poschls. Very refreshing in the nose. Although it's not a real apricot smell at all it is a very great fake apricot. The menthol in most poschls seems to be put in to the snuff with no reguard to how it mixes with the other scents, this is not the case with Gawith Apricot where the menthol (which seems lighter then the other poschls) really just makes the apricot smell more refreshing kind of like icecubes in apricot juice. I can see why this one stays in peoples rotations for years after considering most poschls to be beginers trainingwheel snuffs.

I really enjoy using this one! I usually take a good pinch at the start of the day, and have noticed that it really lingers well, so that you get the occasional hit of the apricot throughout the rest of the day, regardless of whatever other snuff I seem to be using.

Ah...Gawith apricot...its what I cut my teeth on. This was recomended to me by my tobacconist as "the only good snuff made anymore". Its so easy and smooth a really messed up baby could do it. Its a great first time sniff, and I dig on the easy pour container (eh'hem Willson's) so do yourself a favor and give it a whirl, if not...whatever, I dont care either way. Now take your 4 stars and be gone!!!!!****

This is a nice snuff to use daily. I regularly sprinkle a bit in my pipe tobacco mixture if I want a menthol hit! This is a very easy to use and capable snuff. Easy to find in stores, and delicious in the nose. I highly recommend this snuff to beginners and advanced users alike.

One of the few menthol snuffs I take a pinch from on a fairly regular basis. I get in a 1 week craving for this about every 4-5 weeks. Has a sweet apricot with medium menthol power. Very pleasing snuff over a wide range of palates. Very good starter snuff and still goes over well with a veteran.

Great beginners snuff. Nice apricot taste with menthol. Nice balance of menthol and apricot. Pretty cheap, come in a cool designed container which holds 10g of the snuff. Pretty cheap and good for everyday use by the folks who like medicated snuffs.

Gawith Apricot is one of the most popular snuff sold in the world. Gawith Hoggath snuff is known in the UK as a quality Snuff producer. Gawith Apricot is simply amazing! This snuff is even favored by people who are not particularly fond of menthol. When you first open the handy flip open container you notice right away the menthol scent. Not to strong, but just right with a very nice little punch. The texture of this snuff is a course and semi-moist ground. The amazing thing about this snuff is the menthol awakens the palate nasal cavity, and mucus membrane. This is the first thing we noticed, than it is followed by the distinguished scent and flavor of Apricots. The refreshing scent of Apricots likened to the scent of freshly harvested peaches or a peach grove. This snuff is enjoyable anytime of the day. Though it makes a wonderful after dinner treat. It's very relaxing and the scent lingers long after the initial sniff. This is a snuff you will be reaching for on the regular. I can say Gawith Apricot will not be one of the snuff sitting in the back of your snuff collection. This is a snuff we would highly recommend for beginners and experienced snuffers alike.

the "standard snuff" in germany, together with gletscherprise. also my first snuff tobacco. it comes in a nice, black 10g poeschl box. the grind is medium, as is the moistness. the tobacco is very dark, nearly black. the scent is leathery and a bit fruit-like, but not very sweet. the taste is such that one does not grow tired of it soon. it has quite a nicotine kick and is very easy to take. the menthol is not weak, but does not irritate my nose. it seems to very effective in delievering nicotine, so it is liked by smokers who wan to quit.

This one is a good beginners snuff,a very moist med/coarse grind that is easy to snuff. The fruity menthol scent appeals to a lot of folks. There seems to be no noticeable nicotine content. IMHO the flavor is a notch above Ozona President. It tends to plug me up but I'll still take a pinch on occasion.Of course YMMV
