Reviews for Toque Absinthe

Had to give it 4 instead of 5 stars since I don't even like aniseed flavoring. This snuff, however, seems to do it for me. On occasion, that is. Not a snuff that I grab every day, but a snuff that I will grab every week for a very long time

Toque has done it again!!!! Another great snuff that is, absinthe has more pros than cons to me it has a very calming effect to it and like others are saying that the scent of the anise really lingers in your nose for a great while but the tobacco "tones" are very distinct in the mix of the anise but the tobacco. Also I love the fact that Toque made a snuff that I can take without a "burn" like the scotches that I take.

Yet another of the handful of strong scented but still really good snuffs for me. I've never had 'absinthe' so for me this is just like really old-fashioned black licorice the type that was yes, strong, and more bitter and less sweet. It doesn't say "toast' on the label and call me crazy, but I still think there's a toasted tobacco under there, this could have been called "Black Licorice Toast" and it would have suited it very nicely. This is another I thought was going to be just a 'special treat once in a while' snuff but I'm getting it back out and leaving it where I can hammer away at it and might seriously consider getting more/bigger tins of it for my limited 'list' of snuffs I might like to keep a bigger stash of on hand (haven't decided yet) nice zingy licorice taste bite (but like with liking lime for the the lime toast one, here you'd better really like licorice, and it turns out at least here and in this way, I do). this is one of only three strong scented snuffs so far I not only like but really like (all three of them are toques, Lime Toast, Absinthe and Xmas Pudding) this gets a 4.5 or 4.75 stars.

I have never tried proper Absinthe, but a little research informs me its primary ingredients are wormwood, fennel and anise. I surmise that the name "Absinthe" may be more of a poetic licence or perhaps a marketing device. In either case, what we basically have here is an Anise based snuff. Most snuff companies have one in some fashion, so there is no reason Toque should not. Its a tricky one though, as like clove or mint, you will always find a fair segment of the snuffing community having very strong feelings about such strong flavors: some will really love it and some will really hate it. I happen to be of the mind that anise is nice on occasion, but not all day or even every day. The obvious (non menthol) competition here is with McCrystal's Anisette and Wilson of Sharrow's Aniseed & Eucalyptus (the latter having more detectable fennel than this one). I cannot place any of the scents beyond Anise in this snuff (I have no idea what wormwood is like). This snuff is however, more well rounded than the McChrystal's, and not as "cold" as the Wilson's. There is a paradoxical balance here that makes this both a cooling snuff and a warming snuff; yet there is no freezing or burning sensation. Its well crafted indeed, and if I loved anise, my rating would be higher. 3 solid stars.

Aaaaah, beware the Green Toque Fairy! Indeed, the flavour´s reminding me rather of Absinth, then of Ouzo, as the anis is quite present inside, but the overall effect is more balanced and mellow, due to additional ingredients, must noticeable Fennel (not sure about wormwood, but it could very well be inside). I´m not wild about anis, but in such a good mix, it´s rather delightful! The tobacco´s slightly masked by the flavours, but in this case, it´s quite ok and can´t count as a loss. The snuff is very fresh and therefore pretty moist. Extremely easy to take, though the grind is quite fine. I´d bet this one works very good in a snuff bullet, too. A masterpiece.

This is a finely ground, strongly flavoured snuff, with a good nicotine punch, and although I think it misses some of the aromatic elements of Absinthe, it certainly has the scent of a good Pernod/Ricard. The anis is bullish and dominating, and if you leave the tin open it will quickly scent the room, and eventually your entire flat. The strength of this anis means that Toque Absinthe will leave its mark on any snuffs you use after it for quite some while. This is a pleasing snuff, and one that I'm happy to have tried, but I'm not quite sure when I would take it, or how it fits into my daily snuff use - in the final analysis, its own power works against it, and limits my enjoyment. Just like absinthe itself, it's not something you'd want every day, or even every month, but it may be something to binge on every now and again. Only time will tell if it will send anyone insane or inspire anyone to cut their ear off.

What makes this one unique is its lack of menthol. It has a long lasting anise flavor with the usual notes of Toque tobacco. What's nice about many of the Toque products is that you can get them in a non-menthol flavor; however, I tend to favor menthol with my anise. For me, when I'm in the mood for anise, it's Poschl Lownprise. I find it easier to take than the Toque and you just can't bet their container.

The flavour is right, the grind is right and the moisture level is right, making for a pretty decent snuff, whether one refers to the flavour as Absinthe, Ouzo, Pernod, Ricard or anything else of that ilk! The snuff is yellow-brown and has a relatively fine grind, rendered easy on the nose by the level of moisture. The scent hits you as soon as you open the tin and lingers nicely in the nose long after taking a pinch. Mmmm... think I'll have another pinch!

Yellow brown in colour, medium moisture and finely ground. I have never drunk absinthe, but as others have noted, it certainly smells like ouzo. The snuff is pretty straightforward aniseed and is enjoyable for a fan of this flavour (like me). No burn on the nose, but the fine grind may be troublesome for novices. The intial aniseed hit subsides quickly, but lingers in the background for a while.

Sweet aniseed flavor. But less sweet than the liquor, which makes it more enjoyable in my opinion. Little burn, enjoyable, but not an all day snuff for me. If you enjoy Wilson's Aniseed Extra, you may enjoy this one without the menthol.

My first Toque! I love it. I really wouldn't compare the flavor to Absinthe but I really enjoy the aniseed scent.

A good start for an absinthe anyway. I just drank some at work and I must say I really liked it. I intend to get that bitter wormwood into this snuff myself. One way or another. It's understandable that this product be shipped without the prohibited herb thereby missing. But where there is will there is way. So off to the herb store I go!

Not my favorite toque. I think it is more like ouzos than absinthe. It does not have the bitter medicinal taste of absinthe. I do think it adds allot to my toque fruit cocktail.

Very relaxing and strong flavoured aniseed snuff. At last I found a snuff for my anise-hunger.

I have to say that I was expecting something much different when I first inhaled a pinch of this one... but after using a gram of this,I soon started to appreciate the true flavors of tobacco without the menthol. One pinch leads to another and I found myself unable to take just a single pinch. Yet another chapter in the joys of snuff. The representative was extremely expedient and courteous and really takes to heart what he does for a living... not too many left and a breath of fresh air in more ways than one. I will be buying more for my daily rotation just as soon as I get out of the red. I think if anything, that even a little more licorice/anisette flavor would be nice but then again, I started off my snuff voyage with an anisette -"Cokesnuff" and have many fond memories from "the good old daze" thanks to this particular scent. It's as if I am undergoing some sort of aromatherapy treatment with each pinch ! I can't wait until Christmas !! Cheers.

I love Ouzo and anisette liquors but don't get to drink much (too busy). This is the exact snuff equivalent of a good Ouzo. It should have been called Ouzo because there is none of the nasty wormwood flavor that is present in Absinthe. But I agree that the name Absinthe will sell better. Not too sweet but sweet enough to satisfy a particular hankering. This is one of my favorite Toque's.

Like snuffster, I find the initial blast a bit off-putting, I prefer a longer lasting afterglow. However, regular use is kinder to the senses with the original shot, although anise is not my favourite flavour, only cloves do I find worse for my taste. For anyone who likes aniseed, this Toque snuff is well up to their usual high standard of grind and moisture.

Well, Good n Plenty is my favorite candy, with the exception of chocolate, so this was a welcome flavor to me. After a nice Indian meal, I always like to grab a handful of anise seeds and licorice candy. Now to have a snuff with such an accurate flavor of anise just makes me happy. I just wish I had bought a larger tin. The anise flavor is very good, a strong flavor, as it should be, in my opinion. It is a fairly fine grind, easy on the nose, with a lasting scent that I just love. Exceptionally fresh! The only thing that could make this better for me would be a higher nicotine content. I use this primarily as a dessert snuff or an occasional pick me up - I don't want to overdo it and lose the love! 4.75 on the scale of 5.

This is the only Toque snuff that I don't get on with, I just find the flavour miles too strong, even sickly and I would hazard a guess that this is Toque's least popular blend. I'm sure committed Absinthe drinkers will go for this though; as with all Toque snuff it tastes exactly like the flavour stated on the tin - in actual fact it strongly resembles the French Absinthe currently on the market called 'Absent'.

No mistaking the aniseed in this snuff. There was also a curious 'after tingle' in the nose which is quite refreshing. Not sure that I could use such a strong snuff as an all-dayer, but it will certainly be in my rotation.

Yet another great snuff from Toque. This snuff has a nice rich solid anise base which gives this snuff a nice warm calming effect. This would be a good snuff to relax with after a long stress filled day. The scent lingers nicely in the nose and will make you want to quit what your doing, sit down and relax. Anise is a relaxing scent to me but everyone has to put menthol in their anise snuffs which makes it not so relaxing. So its nice to see this without menthol. This snuff is easy to take a lot of and could easily be an all day every day snuff. And if your a lover of anise, I'm sure it will be.
