This is a mystery snuff to me. when I open it is smells just like a bottle of booze (can't quite tell what type as I'm not much of a drinker) and I hoped that smell would be in the snuff once in my nose, but it wasn't. In fact there was no taste to this at all, once in my nose its like invisible no smell/ no taste snuff, no tobacco no 'smell of dirt' even, nothing at all. If I didn't feel it physically sitting in my nose I wouldn't know it was there. I even tried tasting it on my tongue and putting some in my lip and even there what I get is just a little taste of.. salt and that's it There is no supposed rose, no nothing at all, this is a very strange snuff. I can only guess that its so strange that my nose (or even my mouth) just can't even tell what to make of it so it makes nothing at all. Maybe over time I'll figure this one out and if I do I'll come back and update this, until then, this is officially the strangest snuff I have ever sniffed. giving it 3 stars since its neither good nor bad its just.. there (and strange, and I guess at least strange should count for something)

Maccoboy is a variant, anglicized, spelling of Macouba, being a semi moist dark brown rose scented snuff. Maccoboy snuffs were once common in the United States, most snuff mills having one among their varieties. Railroad Mills Maccoboy is the only surviving brand. This has nothing particular in common with its cousins F&T Macouba and DeKralingse Macuba other than the rose scent. Also it is quite a striking departure from the rest of American snuffs, which are nearly all scotches. Its very moist by American snuff standards, except when comparing with true moist or oral snuffs such as Copenhagen. It is slightly dryer and finer than those. What it does share in common with them is a fermented character, which anyone familar with that scent will immediately recognize. Its a scent sometimes found to a lesser extent in some German snuffs and schmalzlers as well as some English dark snuffs such as Princes. Getting back to Maccoboy, the moistness makes it quite easy to take, even for a beginner. There is no noticeable nose burn. The nicotine is quite potent in this as well, especially since quite a bit can be taken at once - almost like a schmalzler. The fermentation and rose scents combine to give a slightly sour taste, but not an unpleasant one. Some will not care for this but others will relish it. A foul tasting throat drip will occur if not kept forward in the nose. It will also cause the nose to run. The bottle is unique and based on an older glass medicine bottle with a cork. Nowadays its all plastic, but the same general shape. After the first few pinches, you will have to resort to a spoon or transfer some to a spare empty snuff tin. The bottle seems to have been designed to faciliate oral use. Tried that way, its not bad at all, but its much better as a nasal snuff. Top marks for upholding a fine tradition and for being quite unique in the snuff world.

Boldly ignoring all warnings I´ve taken a couple of pinches. Well, did I catch the buzz or did the buzz catch me, I don´t know. Suddenly a mouse wheel can be a very complex thing to handle... Seems like the american brother of the Taxi Red. The tobacco in there is a very well fermented one, tastes pretty good. The rose flavouring is pretty subtle, though a bit too gentle for my tastes. The container itself is a bit strange, the opening is too large to pour the snuff out and too little to take pinches out of it, some sort of device is needed to use it. Needs improvement. A very good snuff imo.

Wow this stuff is interesting. I have to say it is pretty strong in its plastic jar so when i received it I thought maby I would wait and all I can say is dont Dive right into this blend. It will really knock you down as far as nicotine and smells great after you get used to it. It kind of reminds me of Princes Special (F&T) but only slightly. The drip reallly made me cough all morning so blow out before it goes down you throat. That almost ruined it for me I thought I was going to cough up tonsils but after a long while it finally relaxed. ( I was drinking milk so maby the phlem made it worse but woah) really interesting stuff for the person that likes things like manual steering and typewriters, this is a difficult snuff but the reward is immense.

I ordered this looking for a budget alternative to F&T's utterly decadent Macouba. Fingers nearly weak with excitement, I eagerly popped the easy-open rubber cap and brought the cute, very 19th-century bottle to my nose. Unfortunately, what first hit me was that this snuff was very fermented - the Copenhagen comparisions below are very spot-on. While fermentation adds a very distinct scent that many find nice, the fermentation process is also a golden opportunity for the formation of various TSNA's (tobacco-specific nitrosamines - the little tumor-forming baddies in American dip). Still, I gave this a shot, and boy, did it (and does it still to this day) HIT. The fermentation gives it a very strong "tingle", yet it's so moist (we're talking snus-levels of moisture here) that it doesn't exactly burn. It's also the drippiest snuff I've yet encountered - much more so than even the most menthol-laden of "medicateds". It tends to irritate the back of the throat, but a single healthy blow and it's nearly entirely gone, unlike most of the Dutch Windmill ( / De Kralingse / Molens) snuffs. Everyone else seems to remark on the rose scent, which I can't really find - just fermentation to these nostrils. And let's get back to that buzz - maybe it's the fermentation, but no other snuff leaves me light-headed and borderline trippy the way Maccoboy does, not even the fabled Rooster. Even thirty minutes later, other snuffs feel lightweight. I suspect Maccoboy isn't exactly the most healthy snuff out there, and it ain't no F&T Macouba, but if one can find one's self enjoying the very distinct smell, one should certainly give this one a shot. It's certainly a lot more pleasurable than snuffing Copenhagen, which this particular reviewer has tried on one particularly boring summer eve.

To me it is like snuffing Copenhagen with a little rose in it. I like the smell of Cope so in my book it is a positive. I got it as a free sample form nicotine rush and used it up in a day. I ordered 2 bottles the next time around and have one left. It is so moist I messed up one of my wood snuffboxes. So put it in plastic or metal. It is honorable when it dries out.

I haven't had a nicotine buzz in years. Just got a bottle of Maccoboy in today and filled up my snoot in the normal fashion, and I'm sweating here. Smells and tastes like cope, not in an unpleasant way, with a hint of rose. I like it, but I wasn't expecting this buzz.

Interesting product coming from Swisher. The scent comes off as just something floral. Rose is hidden by the stronger fermented tobacco scents. Sort of like a Kendal brown type of snuff. It's funny, I keep waiting for the violet to come out. The Rose does though, every now and then. Macoboy blows out cleaner than the KB's that I have tried. Seems this may be better dried out a little. I'll have to put that on the to do list. The bottle works well with a spoon but impossible to pinch from .P.S. Not too good dried out. And minus one star because I just don't snuff it, maybe later.

This is another very moist american selection. The sole scent is rose but it has a fermented smell to it which does not mix well for me. i would much prefer the smell of an actual rose, and although this one comes in a unique container and is a unique snuff i can't seem to like it all that much, not that bad either though. Perhaps i just need to spend a little more time with it. I think i will let some dry out a little bit in a snuff box and then give it another try.

This snuff turned out to be a most unexpected pleasure for me! Maccoboy is about as far removed from an American dry scotch as you can get. It's quite a dark brown and of a medium to coarse grind and the biggest surprise was how moist it is. It's very easy on the nose, having little burn and the flavour has similarities with some of the Bernard non-Schmalzlers, like Pariser Nr. 2 and Civette. This would suggest a blend of different tobaccos. The flavouring is rose and most enjoyable it is too. A snuff not to be missed (until you hate roses of course!).

VERY Nice! Semi moist with a nice grind and a subtle flavor. This worn out old Rooster filled nose of mine likes it!
