This was quite a surprise! This one ranks at the complete oppostite end of the spectrum from Square among Swisher/Helme's Scotches. It is by far the mildest, plainest and moistest of the scotch snuffs. I even dropped it down to Fine/dry rather than extra fine/very dry that the other scotches fall into. I agree with the other reviews that this is an excellent choice for the beginner who wants to begin to train themselves for the scotches. I wish I had known about this one sooner. It has a nice sweet (but not like sweet scotches) note to it and a unique natural flavor. Top marks for being an island of simplicty unique among a sea of smokey barbecues.

Mild and nice in flavour, not specifically deep. Just a modest touch of toast. The strength lies in the nicotine punch and the usability. Even a strong sniff doesn´t go too far up. So for a careless strong hit of nicotine and for people new to US scotches, this would be a very very good choice, it´s perfect for that. But it lacks a bit in flavour for my tastes to rate it any higher. Good offering, still.

I completely agree with ermtony. This is a good American Scotch. It has the vitamin "N" hit but does not have the smoky flavor. I like the BBQ smokey flavor but this is a very welcome change for me, since I like variety. It is easy to take compared to anyother classic American Scotch, I think we all owe it to ourselves to try this snuff.

I'm relatively new to snuff so this is my favorite American Scotch so far. Rooster is just too strong for my wimpy nose. Starr has a wonderfully mild flavor that I can enjoy all day. The grind isn't quite as fine as other Americans such as Rooster which makes it easier for a novice like myself. The nicotine is great also. Wonderful snuff!

Very mild and plain clean unflavored tobacco. Not outstanding compared to other smokey Scotch snuffs. That is a good thing and would make this a nice introductory snuff for the novice looking to try the Scotch styles. The nicotine is still there mind you, just not in the sharp BBQ fashion that can overpower the senses at times. The more experienced snuffer might prefer something a little more full bodied like Swisher's Square, wich is one of my personal favorites. This snuff is of course definitely worth the few hundred pennies it takes to acquire.

Another recent acquisition, Starr Scotch turns out to be really rather good. It doesn't seem quite as fine and dry as some American scotches and the smokiness is fairly subdued but it packs the expected punch. It's certainly both easier to take and easier on the nose than some scotches too and seems more akin to a plain high dry toast in many ways. A good all day snuff in my book.
