Reviews for Wilsons of Sharrow Princes

My favourite Princes version, more (though slightly) pronounced in the tobacco richness than the F&T and a bit more balanced than the Frederick Tranter version. Just like with the latter, this snuff has to be transferred to a non-corrosive container ASAP. The tin was starting to rust 2 weeks after I´d received it. Well, the snuff is just fantastic, not only dark in colour, but also in it´s pronounced taste. The mix with the background floral, musky flavour is divine, citric to the slightest degree. Very long lasting. The best way for me to take it, is with a snuff spoon, as the high moisture is causing it to press together too much, when being pinched and you´d have to "crumble" it into the nose then. Starts a very strong secretion and clears the nose, like hardly another snuff. Clearly a snuff to buy in bulk for me.

This is my favorite snuff of the princes class. a heavy undertone of tobacco, and scented perfectly(it's quite well balanced), not cloying like F&T's prince's line. The tin i got was rather dry, but I suspect it should be on the moist side.

Very nice. I'm still leaning towards the Fribourg & Treyer Princes & Princes Special as my preffered snuffs for this class, but this one is quite good. Its very similar to Best Dark, except that instead of bergamot this one has more traditional Princes scents, namely musk and a hint of geranium. The strength of the scent is not as subdued as the Smith's Princes, but much more subdued than the F&T. Its also a bit courser than both of them. I'd recommend the smallest tins of this (and the other moist ones) to try out. Larger tins tend to dry out on me too fast and I have to rehydrate them. Once you have your favorites nailed down, get them in bulk.

This is excellent. Very similar to F&T's Princes, but different. Very floral and with a long lasting scent. Provides a tremendous blow after a short while. Keep this in the men's club, not a snuff for mixed company because of the horrific mess it can make. 5 stars

Not too bad! Black, coarse, and moist, this snuff is lightly floral. The tobacco flavor is great. Fantastic ocasionally, but I find that it clogs me up too much to be enjoyed on a regular basis.

Almost black, medium to coarsely ground, and very moist, this snuff is less scented than the Fribourg and Treyer version, is slightly moister and is less coarse. The leathery tobacco base is superb, with hints of peat and smoke (like a good Islay whisky), followed by subtle geranium, musk and rose. Nicotine levels are good. Can be a bit messy due to the coarse, moist nature of the snuff, and too much can lead to a harsh "drip" and clogging. However, I prefer this version to the F&T blend (which is even more difficult to sniff) and is quite a bit cheaper also. Recommended. 8/10. EDIT: WARNING! Do not store this snuff long term in the tin - it corrodes it leaving the snuff unusable!

Wilsons Princes is (for me) as good as that sold in the Fribourg & Treyer tins and it is far cheaper. It is a rappee with a light floral undertone. It is similar in grind to Best Dark, but it is black rather than dark brown and the flavour is more musky. Some people like to make a Bordeaux by mixing in a small proportion of a piquant S.P like Queens. The original F&T did not specify the ratio in their blend of moist and dry, but 20% dry should, one is told, suffice. This is a good offering from Wilsons and would provide a welcome change for those wanting to try something a little different from the endless medium snuffs that dominate the market.

Princes is a very dark brown (not as black as F&T Princes), coarse and moist snuff, nicely flavoured with geranium. I'm more inclined to consider it a plain snuff than a scented one as it lacks the extra flavourings of the F&T blend. This is not a bad thing and makes it a distinct snuff in its own right, though it is fairly similar to Wilson's Brunswick. The effect is clean and cleansing, seemingly opening the nose and clearing the head. Most refreshing.

Geranium is very prominent on the nose of this black moist snuff. Sickly tasting run is easily avoided by using smaller pinches. A nice herbal/floral fragrance to have on hand.
