Even a bit stronger in its nicotine strength than the Taxi Red, this snuff is mindblowing. Some breaks between each sniff are highly recommended! Basically this snuff is such ammonia soaked, that it just needs a few hours to air out, in its natural state it has a most unpleasant goathouse odoeur, which is quite a serious nose offender. Once it has breathed enough, it has a very interesting true and earthy tobacco flavour, still moist enough. But for some reasons, I can´t keep more than half of it in my nose, whereas I´ve never had trouble with any coarse snuff, like Schmalzler, the various Taxi´s or the few coarse Samuel Gawith´s.

When you get this stuff it resembles a VERY used cat Box. Ammonia and literally I think you could squeeze the moisture out of it if you squeezed it hard. It is amazing, I dried it out on a plate and I kinda wish I had not done that but its still an amazing snuff, the plastic container it is in works well albeit a tad too small. It is strong as all hell, it is the best nicotine buzz you can get, better than most scotches. An amazing thing about this snuff is that it makes your nose run like a tap, brown liquid literally pouring out of your nose. This works so good as a clearing effect, I get a bit congested in the mornings and no matter how congested I am it will clear me right up, also a wonderful wake up snuff.
A good tobacco snuff, if you want to quit smoking or really feel your vitamin N get this it WILL NOT DISAPPOINT.

Very moist, coarse and smelling strongly of ammonia when it arrived. I opened it and left it out for a while to air out. The ammonia smell never quite faded, but it's tolerable now. Very nice nicotine to it, and you can just shovel this stuff into your nose. I prefer the menthol to the original, as it didn't lose as much moisture and the ammonia totally vanished. Still, I do love the earthy smell of NTSU.

This is probably the coarsest snuff I have ever tried, and possibly also the strongest. I'm sure there must be at least some n. rustica in the mix! Coarse, dark, moist and plain, and as such it is truly excellent. On first opening the practical plastic tub (perfect for re-use of course) I was struck by a powerful blast of ammonia, indicating super-freshness. Having tipped out the snuff and spread it out on a sheet of paper to air for a few hours, the ammonia dissipated allowing enjoyment of the snuff itself. The flavour is relatively complex for a plain snuff. It's earthy and leathery with more than a hint of the farmyard. Not dissimilar to some of the Bernard snuffs (thinking of Gekachelte Virginie here) and quite similar to Taxi, both Red and Blue, but I reckon the Ntsu is stronger than either. It does take a fair old sniff to get it to stay in the nose, but that is no hardship and I can understand why some users choose to dry and grind it more finely. Me, I'm enjoying it very much as it is.

When I first recieved this snuff I approached it with some trepidation. However, I was already accustomed to the Taxi snuffs and the style of this snuff was not unlike those. The first thing everyone seems to notice is the incredible pungency of ammonia when first opened. Letting it air for awhile and stirring it a few times should help to disperse that. Everyone trying this once will be sure to hate it. Everyone brave enough to go back a second time, will learn to appreciate this for what it is.
There really is no perceptible flavor other than the ammonia and a bit of "barnyard". I would reccomend not actually sniffing this, as you will have to have an immense wind to budge it and secondly you may knock yourself unconscious with the ammonia fumes. Simply take a pinch and push it in. It holds itself together well, so that should be easy. Take two or three for each nostril. Then make sure you don't have anything important to do for the next ten minutes. The nictotine buzz you will get from this will keep you in your seat for awhile. Taking any more might make you want to lay down for a good half hour. I'm pretty nicotine tolerant and I have to be careful with this one.
I suspect that the ammonia is more than just a byproduct in this snuff's case. There is likely an alkalizing agent of some kind at work here.
Some have suggested that this is actually an oral snuff, but having talked to South Africans I do not beleive that to be the case since oral snuff use is not as common there. I did try this orally, just to see, but it wasn't very good that way.
For the record, the words on the tin: "Ugwayi" is Zulu for "tobacco" and "NTSU" is Zulu for "Eagle." It made me feel like I was flying high, so "Eagle" seems to suit it.

My first review being the first for NTSU. Kind of fitting I think.
This is a plain tobacco scent.First impression after opening the container was YUCK! Ammonia liked to have knocked me out. Very moist, almost wet. I dumped the whole can in a large bowl and let it air and dry out. After aging this has a nice basic tobacco scent. Very high nicotine. I am a chain snusser, with a high nicotine tolerance. There have been three snuffs that I notice the nicotine. This one, Taxi Red and Dholakia Black. Not easy to find, but worth the trouble.
