Reviews for Dholakia Black Snuff

Blacker than black and really fine, but with a moistness that makes it surprisingly easy to sniff as long as you know what you're doing. And there's no denying the nicotine hit. There is a natural scent to it that I can't quite find the words to describe, but in no way is it a bad thing. If you're looking for a straight tobacco snuff with plenty of Vitamin N, this is your snuff.

I am very glad Dholakia decided to make a black snuff. I am even more glad that they made it a non-perfumed, non-mentholated one. They really are on top of their game when they make tradtional Indian blends. I don't know how this is so incredibly black in color, or how they make it, but they have done a wonderful job. This snuff is quite fine, but has a bit more moisture (likely ghee based) that allows it to clump, or to smear if you get it on your hands or clothes. Its incredibly potent in nicotine and reasonably easy to take. A snuff spoon makes the taking of it a bit more tidy. The aroma is probably going to be a turn-off for a beginner. It has a very "natural" scent, that may remind one of barnyards or zoos, or even the elephant parade at the circus. Once accustomed to it, the smell is less important. Its not a daily snuff for me, but I love having it on hand when I need a good long lasting nicotine buzz, that only Taxi and Ntsu usually provide. It will cause my nose to both run and drip into my throat which is its only drawback. Makes a mess of white handkerchiefs.

A deep, heavy, acrid, complex scent, unlike the razor sharp, lethally dusty, fearsome heavy weaponry of Dholakia White that I agree makes for a love it or hate it scent. When I first tried it, the "agricultural" quality was too much for me, but over time the depth, complexity and way in which it devoped and changed as I kept it in my nose won me over, and not it's a snuff that I use on a regular basis. Love it or hate it, there are few natural tobacco snuffs that are this pungent, have a finish that lingers like this one, or have this kind of depth and character, so it really is a remarkable snuff. Just don't expect a heavily perfumed Indian snuff like Dholakia's Kamal, and give yourself a chance to adjust to it's unique qualities. Dark, fine, dry snuffs (and this one is seriously black) with high nicotine content are few and far between, and I suggest you give this one a try, and try a little patience as well. It may become one of your favorites as a change of pace from the more bland, citrus or floral snuffs that dominate the market these days.

I ordered this expecting something along the lines of Sun Snuff's "Pari" or, (dare I dream) the absolutely exquisite 5 Photo Himalaya. While the consistency is spot-on - a finely-ground, ultra-moist, pitch-black concoction - the smell is anything but. As others have already said, this is basically plain tobacco, I'd say it's a bit of a love it or hate it scent, it reminds me of the inside of the monkey house at the National Zoo - very mealy, with hints of straw and a faint whiff of monkey business most indiscreet! I wouldn't say this is an entirely bad thing at all - it's a smell which I do actually enjoy in a certain way, but I wouldn't necessarily proclaim my love for loudly in mixed company. It's a similar situation to the various unscented Kendal Browns (Samuel Gawith and Gawith Hoggarth), which have a smell much like that of motor oil. Anyway, as far as Dholakia Black is concerned, it ain't no 5 Photo - it ain't even a Pari - and it sure ain't pretty, but it's nice on the honker and gets the vitamin N delivered. If I could do fractionals, I'd give it a 3.5/5.

I just picked up a 4g flip top box of this. Mine has a chocolate overtone to it. Very agreeable stuff. Be careful tho or you'll look like a chimney sweep if you get this all over your hands and face which is easy to do. This may be best used with a bullet or spoon. 5 stars from me.

Very finely ground, though not so fine as the Dholakia white, and black as pitch. It's also quite dry, but again not as much as the Dholakia white. Very pleasant scent to it, which lingers for quite a while. The odour reminds me a little bit of NTSU, although I couldn't come up with a single name for it no matter how much I might try. It's got a nice nicotine kick to it, and is surprisingly easy to take for a snuff ground so fine.

Plain tobacco of supreme quality. Fine grind, but easier to take as some medium ground snuffs. It´ll remain a mystery how such a fine snuff can be so easy. Maybe a little less complex than the White counterpart, but the usability makes more than up for it. I´d bet this snuff could attract lots of people to the snuff world. This is rather black in colour and sticks a bit to the skin, so this could be the only, slight, negative aspect: you have to be careful, or you´ll walk around with a black nose. The Ozona President "mirror" (or any other of course) is of good use here.

This snuff has a lot of depth, and some days I can't stand the smell of it, but other days I can't sniff it into my nose fast enough! It is fine and dry and black in color, and is unscented tobacco. I can't seem to think of a proper way to describe this snuff's flavor, but it has an exotic aroma that is, without a doubt, a product of India! It tends to clump to itself, which can make it easier to take, but it can hit the throat if one gets careless. I think it is a bit messy, too, so care must be taken not to smear it allover when sniffing, still, another fine one from Dholakia.

This is a very, very fine snuff indeed. Pure Indian tobacco - that's all you get with this snuff, and that's all you need. It is very finely ground and fairly dry (although my sample does seem to clump very easily - go figure) and is the blackest coloured snuff I have ever encountered. A very nice nicotine hit accompanies the exquisite tobacco flavour. Very easy to take, hits the spot. A triumph.

This is quite an unusual snuff, at least by European standards. In Europe dark snuffs are usually coarse and moist (and are very nice that way). Dholakia's Black Snuff on the other hand is fine, medium-dry and as black in colour asany snuff I have seen. It is a plain snuff, the only flavour being that of the tobacco itself and to be honest, this snuff needs no other flavouring, It is truly excellent. It also packs quite a wallop in the nicotine department, again in contrast to most European dark snuffs. The only negative about this snuff for me is that I have no idea where I am going to be able to get any more when my sample is all gone!

Ive given this top marks because of its sheer useability, rather than for any intriguing array of new flavours or the like. This is a great snuff because its plain, satisfying and pleasant to take, the sort of thing that you reach for when you just need a decent pinch of snuff. Im also impressed by the fact that this snuff causes me no irritation at all - which usually happens for me with courser snuffs, I could use this all day long, which makes it a great snuff for that reason alone. EDIT: Ive just read the preceeding review where he says its a fine snuff. Ive actually just noticed that it is quite fine but my sample has a tendency to clump so until I looked at it closely it had appeared courser than it is. Still a great snuff.
