absolutely top notch snuff. very easy to take. the leathery, stable scent is absolutely delightful. it really reminds me of the countryside and is thouroughly enjoyable. the only drawback is if you snuff too much or too hard there is a very bitter drip which is very uncomfortable. as long as you avoid that it is one of the all time greats.

Doesn't seem as coarse to me. Looks and feels about as coarse as other Toques. Great addition to the Kendal tradition. I'm grateful to have something with a similar style but its own unique wonderful scent. Very well done.

This was to be Toque's answer to the classic Kendal Brown type snuff. I feel a bit guilty ranking this at 4 stars after giving some of the classic Samuel Gawith and Gawith Hoggarth Kendal Browns fewer. This is really quite good though, and also unique. Its a finer mill than either of the Gawiths (forget the WoS and F&T KBs) but its an entirely new grind for Toque and courser than any of their previous offerings. The scenting is stonger on the citrus tones (I confess to not only having the Plain SG KB) than any of the others. It has a light floral backing note rounding it out very nicely. I am reminded of the scent of Wilsons' Brunswick, but its not quite that, either. Its a very rich and dark brown color and as stated not quite the rough hewn type offered by either Gawith. Perhaps its not fair to even compare it to those. Its "Berwick" after all, not "Kendal". Very good, and also encouraging to see Toque experimenting with new grinds.

I just didn't 'get' berwich Brown at all, no saddles or their soaps, none of this other stuff people get from it for me at all, I had an unpleasant perfume-y smell from it I really didn't like and I could not use this snuff. I figure this must be an SP with the worst of SP's in it (whatever it is about SPs that smells perfumery to me and makes them not my favorites, this one had a ton of it). two stars just because whatever it is that made it unpleasant for me, while it was there and enough to repel me it wasn't bad enough to keep me from repeatedly tormenting myself with this one thinking somehow I'd get over it or learn to live with it or be able to mix it with others to quiet it down but I never could, it wasn't as strong or miserable as other various unpleasant snuff scents (the kind that you just know there will never be any hope for it that additionally due to their overpowering, would therefor only get one star. (things that are not only miserable but strongly miserable, this was 'lighter but still miserable) so this wasn't one of those additionally too bad in scent strength like that, so this gets two.

I agree with the general consensus here - this is an intermediate step between the no-nonsense workingman's Kendal Browns put out by Samuel Gawith and Gawith-Hoggarth and the flowery, perfumed, "aristocratic" Kendal Brown offerings of Wilson's and F&T. Not all compromises work, but this one does - very easy on the nostrils (once one gets over the psychosomatic hump), pleasant on the sniffer, and very clean - a great all-day choice for those with long fingernails, you can pinch this forever without ending up with nasty grit. If I could only have one Toque - well, truth be told, I'd be bawling like a 4 year old in the "no candy" checkout; but after I came to terms with the horrible situation I was so unjustly thrust into, Berwick Brown would definitely be on the shortlist.

Even after a month of using this snuff, I´m as enthusiastic as on day 1. This snuff is as perfect, as it can get. Unusual medium to coarse grind for a Toque and medium to quite moist. Very easy to take with this grind and moisture. Delicate citric flavours, solid tobacco, slight floral note, with a pleasant darkness. Not too heavy, but a long lasting flavour, also quite unusual for a Toque, but all the better! This is an instant classic, in line with the very best snuffs available these days. I´ll never run out of this one.

Perfect scent! Plenty of delicious citrus and a well balanced floral arrangement. And that "brown" tobacco note is highlighted in all it's glory. But those flecks are killing me. This snuff has been sneezy for me from the start. I worry I might pop an eye out or something.

Roasted coffee colour, with some light flecks, coarsely ground and dry to medium moist, this snuff is a good example of how to take the best attributes of all the Kendal Browns available and turn them into something unique, yet familiar. The rich, leathery tobacco flavour found in the Samuel Gawith and Gawith Hoggarth KBs marries well with the violet, geranium and citrus aromas that characterise the Fribourg and Treyer and Wilsons KBs. The floral flavours are not overpowering, but linger nicely, whilst the grind and moisture of the snuff prevents clogging, and generates quite a bit of nose run. There is a hefty nose burn, whilst nicotine levels are reasonable and quite sustained. A great addition to the Toque line-up. 9/10.

The thing that most pleased me with this snuff was that Toque had at last produced another type of mill. So far its been the original and toast types - they are great as we all know but now we have another completeley different type of snuff - the Toque version of the famous Kendal Brown. And what great snuff: rich and full of flavour, a deep satisfying snuff that beginners will enjoy and people who know snuff will adore. Not bad at all...

Toque's Berwick Brown rightly deserves every accolade it will surely receive. An instant classic of a snuff, and it isn't often I will say that. Clearly inspired by the Samuel Gawith and Gawith Hoggarth versions of Kendal Brown (rather the the over-perfumed offerings from Fribourg & Treyer and Wilson's of Sharrow), Berwick Brown for me represents Toque's coming of age as a snuff maker. The snuff is a rich mid-brown with flecks of lighter tobacco. It is of medium-coarse grind and has a middling level of moisture. The flavour is just what one would expect of this style of snuff. Superb base tobacco topped with just the right amount of orangey zest to create a wonderful nasal experience.Pure delight all round. It's great to see Toque developing snuffs with different grinds (the fine toasts as well as this one) and I sincerely hope to see more snuffs with this grind appearing in the future.
