Way too much menthol in here, though it´s far from being of inferior quality. It´s got quite an alright flavour itself, but nearly completely masks everything that´s there beside itself. Some eucalyptus manages to get through. Can´t detect camphor really. Has to be taken with some caution, as the menthol is quite a blast. Personally I can´t really see the point in drowning all flavours by this insane menthol dosage, but menthol lovers could find some pleasure in the SM Gold.The SM Blue is really alot better than this imo.

SM Gold reminds me a lot of very fresh J&H Wilson's Medicated No 99 and this is no bad thing at all. The colour is a similar mid-dark brown and it has similar levels of the expected menthol, camphor and eucalyptus. In other words, a classic medicated snuff. I still find it to be rather too strong on the menthol for me and I do prefer the higher level of camphor to be found in SM Blue but SM Gold does make for an interesting change. Mixed 50:50 with Best SP it becomes a very tasty snuff indeed.

Golden brown, medium grind and medium moisture, this snuff is heavily mentholated to the point of being piercing and painful. The effect of the menthol masks the camphor, eucalyptus and subtle citrus aromas until the freezing effects die down. Clears the sinuses quickly in the morning, but I can't use it regularly because of the heavy menthol. The tobacco base is more satisfying and flavoursome than the SM Brown, but as a whole, this snuff doesn't come close to McChrystals O&G. 4/10.

I'm surprised to see only one other review of this. It is a an excellent high quality mentholated snuff. I suspect it contians some combination of eucalyptus or camphor. It does impart a sweet after note and is great for clearing out the sinuses or as a pre-bed time closer. I haven't had any clogging issues with it and count it highly on my re-order list. If you're a menthol fan then its definitely worth a try. I was not disappointed in the least by this one.

What do I say about Wilsons’ SM Gold? It is a good quality medicated snuff with sharp coolness, and the dignity of other Wilsons’ SMs. It is clean. Take a light tobacco and add menthol for menthol fans, keeping it fresh tasting, respectable and satisfying. It is easy to take with little nose bite and non-clogging. It is the blond relative of SM Brown. I can take this any day and all day, but I enjoy a lot the subtle aromatics of the SM Blue. I highly recommend it to menthol snuff aficionados.
