Reviews for Wilsons of Sharrow Irish Coffee

Pale brown, medium grind, medium moisture and sampled from a tin fresh from the mill. This is my second favourite coffee snuff, after Snuff Store's Cafe Noir. The aroma reminds me of both fresh coffee and Baileys Liqueur (i.e. a creamy coffee with a dash of whisky), and the underlying tobacco flavour isn't totally swamped. The scent is quite long-lasting too. Similar to Mullins & Westley Emerald Mocha, but cheaper and slightly better, and it doesn't have the doughiness of Toque Espresso and Wilsons Coffee Cream. A good afterdinner snuff. 7/10.

This isn't the best coffee snuff on the market - it lacks the strength of flavour of the Toque - but its not bad. Even the off mediocre WoS snuff tends to work out ok because the base snuffs are so good; but if you are a real coffee head you'll be happier elsewhere.

Ermtony is right, I can say from experience that this one is oddly susceptible to staleness. I have personally watched my tin decay from a very distinctive, "can smell the open container from across the room" blend of coffee and cream - the sort of smell you might find at a breakfast cafe, with the distant hint of waffle batter and maple syrup in the far background - to something which can barely be smelled unless you're nose-deep in it. Other tins of other snuffs purchased at the exact same time still possess most, if not all, of their former levels of intensity. After a while in a runny nose, with a discreet half-snort or two to jostle everything around a bit, the flavor does start to come out again, and it's a very nice coffee smell, the closest I've found to the smell of actual coffee in the pot. With this in mind, it may recapture all of its prior intensity should it be re-hydrated - I'll have to experiment with this. Why the smell is so sensitive is beyond me. Four stars fresh, two and a half stars once aged. Overall, I'll fault it a star for not keeping well, but even in its current state the tin I have is a nice enough snuff, with more flavor when stale than some of Dholakia's American blends (cough-Cola Champagne-coughcough) when fresh. I wouldn't recommend a bulk purchase of this unless one is a cigar aficionado in possession of the complex (or at least expensive) machinery required to keep this stuff fresh.

I'm a big fan of Wilsons and I don't think there were any I didn't enjoy...except this one. I tried, and I tried, but every time I take a pinch I hate myself for it, but not as much as I hate this awful snuff. I'm sorry, but all I can do is rinse out my nose whenever I take a pinch, it's just wretched. I hope Wilsons will put out a true coffee snuff, heavy and dark, and get rid of this one before it kills again. Zero stars, don't say I didn't warn you.

Quite a pleasant one. But I really think it depends on how one enjoys coffee, as the range goes from raising the dead strong to tea-like. The coffee flavour´s in here, no doubt. But it´s really mild, though quite long lasting. Not too bad, as it leaves much room for the typical, lighter Wilson´s base tobacco. Unfortunately, there´s no trace of Whiskey or any other irish delight detectable. My taste´s more for stronger coffee flavour, but if someone found all the coffee flavoured snuffs too strong, this could just be the perfect one.

a disappointment. No nose burn, no coffee, no whiskey. Just a mild medium dark brown tobacco. The tobacco is good but not strong and no obvious added flavors. Perhaps my taste is jaded by stronger stuff. Maybe this is for novices or gourmets or something. I just don't get it. With the word Irish in the title I expected it to be a dry fine snuff with a little burn. It's not.

The coffee is really there. The grind and moisture is about right, not too fine or moist. It doesn't burn when sniffed. It's a great snuff for beginner and beyond to enjoy all day.

I was prepared to be disappointed by this snuff, based on the comments of others, but I find I am agreeably surprised at how enjoyable it is. I suspect the flavouring in this one fades quickly with age which may account for those other comments. The tin I have is undoubtedly fresh as the snuff is on the moist side of medium, while the grind is on the fine side of medium. I don't get much of a whiskey scent or flavour but the coffee is rich and smooth and relatively long lasting in the nose. The snuff has a very mild burn. Altogether most pleasing!

Yes...I agree...a bit of a let down. If you have ever slammed shut a dusty book in front of your face, then your pretty close to the experience. not much coffee taste and I smelled my Irish friend and he smelled nothing like this. Its better than nothing though. hell...I'll give it 2 and a half stars I guess **1/2

I was expecting more from this one and found it disappointing.

For me this was not a bad snuff at all, BUT there was a disappointment in the coffee area . The coffee was very very light & seemed to come and go. I didn't pick up any of the coffee scent until about a minute or so passed. The only time I really picked up any recognizable coffee scent was the after-blow. And even then it was very weak. This would benefit from adding some Kahlua flavor which is a coffee flavored liqueur. But as a snuff, its pretty good. There's no whisky to it which it should have.
