Reviews for Wilsons of Sharrow Royal George

I sometimes call this the Dr. Pepper of snuffs! It reminds me of that drink in many ways. Sheffield Exchange mysteriously describes it as simply having 20 various flavors. To put it shortly, its a sweet dessert snuff. To unravel its complexity can be fun. I clearly detect cherry, almond (or almond liqueur like Amaretto) and cinnamon. Probably there are some apricot and cloves in here as well. Like Jockey Club, this is a love it or hate it affair. For many its much too sweet. It had to grow on me before I came to love it. Now, for me, its a nice after dinner treat, but not an all day snuff. Very fruity and sweet! This is the king of the dessert snuffs, and really is the one with the most class. Its "Royal," after all. Standard Wilsons medium grind/moisture. Wonderful uplifting effect, and long lasting aroma.

I may have gotten an old tin. My 25g container was dry and prone to small moisture balls if not shaken/smashed up well. The predominant flavor I got from this was baby powder and a hint of cotton candy. I never was able to pick up the multitude of other scents described by everyone else. Its not a bad snuff but one that I didn't find suited all that well to my tastes. I'll use up what I have but doubt I'll order this one again. To be fair, WoS makes some of the best snuffs I've ever had and some of my top favorites come from their mills. However, this just doesn't happen to be one of them.

This snuff is very unusual. First there is a blast of flavour that reminds me of cinnamon rolls baking: cinnamon, allspice, but with a touch of floral underlying it. Nice nose burn. Later there is a a lingering light scent in your nose which if I'm not imagining things is like talcum powder. I don't know how to classify this snuff, but I like it and just ordered some more.

What an absolutely delicious aroma! I agree with others that this would not be an all-the-time snuff, but I can certainly see Royal George as a daily treat. This was sent to me as a sample by a friend (who sent 35 more samples) and it's one of the few I immediately like (the other is Sparrow Cool). This sample, good for about a week, will be followed by a retail order, since this is one of the few I'd like on hand at all times.

I'm not a very experienced snuffer yet, but purchased this snuff because of the reviews that were given, havent gotten the flavors that other reviews mentioned, i recieved a cherry like blast from this snuff that was very enjoyable,,,,,have tried over 50 diff snuffs in the last 6 weeks and not sure if 5 or more different snuffs a day might have anything to do with the flavor, but i find this snuff very enjoyable and will definately stock up on it.....this is the snuff that inspired me to want to write my first review...think it is a must in my collection and hope that others will enjoy it as much as i do.....maybe the wallflower tainted the taste....will let you know if that is the case...will start out fresh with it tomorrow morning and see what happens

This snuff has an appealing grind/moisture combination. I find the flavor to be exotic, sweet and interesting enough to provide a solidly distinguishable variety in my snuff collection. It is very easy to take and I find very-little-to-none nose burn. It may be very enjoyable depending on your mood. I classify it as a memorable change of pace snuff for its uniqueness, hence I grant it tenure. It is not an all day snuff for me, but I recommend it for diversity.

Pale brown, finely ground, medium moisture and perhaps not one for the novice. My partner knows what I'm snuffing as soon as the tin is opened. The aroma reminds me of those hot gobstoppers I liked as a child. Other flavours that emerge are marzipan, sandlewood, vanilla, sweet spices (cinnamon and cloves), tonka beans, violets and turkish delight; the complexity means that certain flavours are more obvious at different times and I can even detect an aroma when I wake up the following day! One of my very favourites in the evening: a real decadent treat.

Medium dark, fairly moist and fairly fine. Almond scented but not sweet. Nice bite. This isn't a snuff I would use every day but it is one I like to dip into occasionally.

The original candy snuff and a real case of love it or hate it. Personally, I love it but in the same way I love Absinthe - something I can't do too often. The flavour is overwhelming and apparently there are twenty different ingredients in it. Its pretty hard to pick any individual flavour out, vanilla, floral notes and sandalwood are all in there somewhere. RG actually comes into its own as a mixer though. One of my favourite home blends is simply Tom Buck or Toque Original with about a third of the mix being RG, now that is something I can take all day as the overwhelming flavour becomes a delicious background note.

Sweet Amaretto. A favorite flavor of mine but to be used sparingly. All connoisseurs must try. Like a Rubik's cube of flavors this one will take a little time to solve. Outstanding!

Royal George Wilsons of Sharrows I carefully removed the forest green seal from this tin.. curious as to the sent that awaited me behind it. The tin came open and apart far to easily it is a dangerous one to carry around. But the tin came apart as explosively as the sent carried its payload to my senses. A burst of sugar (if you can believe it has a smell), cinnamon, clove, and even brown sugar almost knocked me back. With my first sniff I was impressed with how sweet tobacco could be. The powder was slightly course but dry and has a feeling of pebbles not sand in the hand. An interesting texture but an enjoyable one. I enjoyed the aroma greatly but .. I found that through the weekend with continued use.. it was just to sweet. The flavor i realized was not unlike a cinnamon candy cane, or a red hot candy. For those of you who want a super sweet candy snuff I recommend this to you. I will sniff this from time to time.. however... I am a admirer of the more complex flavor of tobacco and scenting... so this will not place among my favorites. It is a very forgiving snuff though. Cheers to the manufacture for their ability to produce what is probably exactly what they were aiming for. for more of my personal reviews visit: http://spiritussanctus.wordpress.com/

This is an occasional snuff for me. I enjoy the scent but continuous use tends to leave me bored and looking through my other snuffs at what I could pinch next. The scent I pick up is baby powder.

This is my second favorite snuff. No two people can agree on the scent as it is very complex in it's ingredients haveing over tweenty secret scents added to it. To me it reminds me of an old fashioned soap or shaveing powder. It's a very warm scent. It reminds me of a time I never lived in. One thing I love about this scent is that it never smells the same to me and ever tin I buy I'll catch a scent I've never noticed before. I recomend if you have not tried this snuff previously to pick up a tin because although you may or may not love it, you will not have had a snuff like it before and just to know what a snuff can be.
